Amagda Pérez to Receive Phillip Burton Immigration and Civil Rights Lawyering Award

Amagda Pérez, Director of the UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic and Executive Director of the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, will be honored with the Immigrant Legal Resource Center's 2012 Phillip Burton Immigration & Civil Rights Lawyering Award at the ILRC's annual awards dinner on May 17.

Raha Jorjani Travels to Jamaica to Address Deportee Reintegration Issues

Raha Jorjani traveled to Kingston, Jamaica on January 15-18 in order to meet with government officials, faculty at the University of the West Indies, and deportees from the United States in order to address issues of reintegration and reabsorption of deportees in receiving countries.

Ninth Circuit Upholds Immigration Law Clinic Victory

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit denied a government Petition for Rehearing, motion to dismiss, and motion to vacate the precedential ruling in Singh v. Holder, an Immigration Law Clinic case that set a new standard of proof in certain immigration bond hearings.

Immigration Clinic Students Succeed in Preventing Deportation of Client

King Hall students Carla Castaneda '13 and Patricija Petrac '13, working under the direction of UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic Supervising Attorney Raha Jorjani, succeeded last week in ending deportation proceedings in the case of a client who is a domestic violence victim and the single mother of a citizen child.
