J.D. Concentrations: Overview

The School of Law has six concentration programs and two programs of distinction that allow J.D. students’ specializations to be recognized upon graduation, subject to the completion of specific requirements. If you have a specific career path in mind, our concentrations will allow you to focus on a specific practice area. 

  • Business Law ConcentrationOffers interested students advanced exposure to business law courses and topics relevant to lawyers with business law practices. 
  • Criminal Law and Policy ConcentrationProvides interested students with broad and deep exposure to criminal law and policy, including hands-on practice experience. 
  • Environmental Law ConcentrationProvides interested students with a concentrated course of study in environmental and natural resources law.
  • Immigration Law ConcentrationProvides interested students with broad and deep exposure to immigration and citizenship law.
  • Intellectual Property Law ConcentrationProvides interested students with broad and deep exposure to intellectual property law.
  • Pro Bono Distinction: Recognizes students who fulfill a minimum number of hours performing volunteer legal work without compensation or academic credit and under the supervision of an attorney.
  • Public Service Law Distinction: Provides students seeking public service careers with coursework that provides a theoretical and practical foundation on which to build.
  • Tax Law Concentration: Offers interested students concentrated and advanced exposure to tax law, policy, and practice, to help students launch careers in tax law.
