It is important to be an educated consumer. This section gives you an overview of UC Davis Law School information for prospective and current students which includes tools, resources, and requirements as a UC Davis Law School financial aid recipient. This section also includes links to general information about UC Davis Law School.

Rights and Responsibilities as a Financial Aid Recipient

  • You have the right to know:

    • What financial assistance is available at UC Davis Law
    • The deadlines for submitting applications for each of the financial aid programs available
    • The cost of attending UC Davis Law and the UC Davis Law refund policy
    • The criteria used by the UC Davis Law Financial Aid Office to select financial aid recipients
    • How your financial aid eligibility was determined
    • What resources are considered in the calculation of your financial aid eligibility
    • How much of your financial need is unmet, as determined by the UC Davis Law Financial Aid Office
    • The terms and conditions of the various financial aid programs, including the criteria for your continued eligibility in the programs
    • The method by which disbursements will be made to you and the frequency of those disbursements
    • The portion of the financial aid you receive that must be repaid, and what portion is grant and therefore not repayable. If the aid is a loan, you have the right to know what the interest rate is, the total amount to be repaid, the procedure for repayment and when the repayment is to begin.     • How UC Davis Law determines whether you are making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for financial aid and what happens if you are not

  • You are responsible for and required to:

    • Report to the UC Davis Financial Aid Office any change in the following:

      • Housing changes
      • Enrollment status (Part-Time, Career staff fee reduction, Graduation)
      • California residency status
      • Additional earnings, funds or support, including any graduate assistance
    • Be enrolled full-time
    • Assume responsibility for repayment of all loans accepted
      • Review the loan terms and process any documents regarding repayment prior to graduation.
      • You must participate in the loan entrance counseling program prior to receiving your first loan and an exit interview at the conclusion of your enrollment at UC Davis.
      • For Federal Direct Student Loans, notify the loan servicer of address changes and other information as specified in the loan terms.
    • Repay any funds you receive which cannot be reasonably attributed to meeting your educational expenses (overpayments)
    • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress in the course of study you are pursuing as prescribed by the UC Davis Law School policy on Satisfactory Academic Progress for Financial Aid
    • Complete mandatory loan exit counseling upon ceasing to be enrolled in at least 6.0 or more units if you have borrowed from the Federal Direct Loans, Graduate PLUS, Federal Perkins Loan programs and/or other Institutional loans including Regents Bar Loans
    • Know the Student Withdrawal Policy and how it affects your Financial Aid
    • Notify the UC Davis Law School Financial Aid office if you become incarcerated in a federal, state or local penitentiary, prison, jail, reformatory, work farm or similar correctional institution. A conviction for any offense involving the possession or sale of illegal drugs during a period of enrollment for which you receive Title IV federal student aid may result in the loss of future financial aid eligibility. If you are convicted of possessing or selling drugs after you submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you must notify the UC Davis Law School Financial Aid Office. If a student successfully completes a drug rehabilitation program, the student may regain federal student aid eligibility on the date the program is successfully completed.   • Loan Entrance and Exit Counseling Requirement

    • Students must complete an on-line entrance counseling before receiving a Federal Direct Loan. Federal Direct Loan and Federal Perkins loan borrowers must complete exit counseling after ceding enrollment or dropped below half-time enrollment.   • Tax Credit and Benefits

    • Depending on your eligibility you may be able to claim educational tax credits:

      • The campus will send you a 1098-T form which includes expenses paid to UC in “qualified expenses” (mainly required tuition and fees) and also how much gift aid students received in the past year. If you need an additional copy or wish to view your 1098-T information, students can go online at 1098t.com or call Tax Credit Relief Service (TCRS) at 1-877-467-3821.
