In interviews and a recently published memo, Professor Darien Shanske expressed his disagreement with the Maryland Tax Court’s decision to strike down the state’s first-in-the-nation digital advertising tax.

In a trio of Aug. 14 rulings in favor of Apple, Google and Peacock TV, the court rejected the tax as unconstitutionally discriminatory and preempted by federal law. 

In late August, Professor Hannah Buxbaum submitted a lecture, "Extraterritoriality under International Jurisdictional Law,” to the U.N. Audiovisual Library of International Law.

Professor David Sandino spoke at the Northern California Technical Assistance Program Conference held Aug. 20 in Redding.

The program provides support to underserved rural and Indigenous communities with contaminated drinking water. The UC Davis Water Justice Clinic provides legal assistance to these communities to improve their water supplies to meet safety standards.

Professor Nila Bala spoke to Telemundo 33 Sacramento on Aug. 13. The story covered a rally at the Capitol where families called for the repeal of Proposition 57, a California criminal justice reform law. Bala provided perspective about how changes to the law could impact the state's juvenile justice system.

On Aug. 19, Professor Kevin R. Johnson presented at the California Senate District Directors Institute (SDDI) session on immigration. Johnson spoke about the federal immigration landscape, including recent policy and enforcement developments.

Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Donna Shestowsky spoke at the “Pathways to Law Teaching” event on August 5 at UC College of the Law, San Francisco.

The half-day workshop focused on pathways to securing full-time law school faculty roles that involve a mix of teaching and research and are often described as “tenure-track.”
