Carlisle ’69 Receives Award
Jay Carlisle '69, a professor of law at Pace Law School, was the first faculty member at Pace to receive an award from the School of Law Alumni Association in recognition and gratitude for his continuing support of the Law School Alumni Association. He was presented with the award on June 7, 2007, at their annual meeting.
Carlisle has practiced law since 1970. He joined Pace in 1978 and has taught courses in Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure, Negotiations, Professional Responsibility, Civil Litigation in New York, Dispute Resolution, Remedies, Civil Rights Law and the Legal Profession. He is the recipient of the first annual Barbara Salken Outstanding Professor Award. He lectures for the Practicing Law Institute, the New York State Trial Lawyers Institute, the Office of Court Administration, and the New York State Judicial Institute. The American Bar Association and the American Law Institute presented Carlisle with a Harrison Tweed Special Merit Award for his contributions to continuing legal education.
Carlisle was appointed by the Chief Judge of New York to the Task Force on Women and the Courts. Governor Mario Cuomo appointed Carlisle as Chairperson of the Temporary State Commission on Local Government Ethics Public Advisory Council, and Governor George Pataki named him to a Select Committee on Cameras in the Courts. Since 1999, Carlisle has served as a referee for the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct and has been a special master for the Supreme Court and New York since 1980. Also, Carlisle is the recipient of several Bar Association awards for his pro bono service.
