Professors Joslin and Soucek Organize, Participate in Sexuality, Gender and the Law Conference

Professors Courtney Joslin and Brian Soucek co-organized and participated in the West Coast Sexuality, Gender and the Law Conference, held March 13-14 at UC Irvine School of Law.

Joslin presented her article “Birth Certificates, Biology, and (In)Equality.” Co-authored with Yale Law Professor Douglas NeJaime, the article is forthcoming in the Northwestern University Law Review.

Joslin and Soucek also served as commentators at the conference.

Professor Joslin is a leading scholar in the field of family and relationship recognition, with a particular focus on same-sex and non-marital couples. She is a two-time Dukeminier Award recipient and the 2023 recipient of UC Davis Law’s Distinguished Teaching Award.

Professor Soucek’s primary teaching and research interests are antidiscrimination law, civil procedure, constitutional law, and refugee/asylum law. He holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. He has clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Mark R. Kravitz in Connecticut, and Judge Guido Calabresi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
