Moot Court Team Takes Home Honors

UC Davis Moot Court Teams won several honors. Danny Barak '06 and Chad Mahalich '07 represented UC Davis School of Law at the 16th Annual National First Amendment Moot Court Competition and was runner up among 40 teams of students from law schools across the United States. More than 200 attorneys, professors, federal and state judges, and legal scholars judged the preliminary rounds and final rounds.

"The performance of these student advocates gives me great optimism for the future of the profession," said 10th Circuit Judge Deanell Tacha.

Volunteer Income Tax Preparation

Confused about Taxes? Many members of the UC Davis Tax Law Society are trained to provide assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA). VITA participants are trained by the IRS and FTB agents to prepare tax returns and provide tax informational and preparation sites on campus and in the local community.

King Hall Legal Foundation presents the 28th Annual Spring Auction

The King Hall Legal Foundation cordially invites you to be a part of the solution and a part of the party at our 28th Annual Spring Auction on March 10, 2006, from 7-10 pm at Freeborn Hall, UC Davis. Come share an evening of food, beverages, and silent and live auction bidding with King Hall students and professors promoting public interest law. Bid on everything from antiques to salon visits to river rafting excursions.

Jewish Culture Week

Jewish Culture Week will be held April 3-7. Students from King Hall's Jewish Law Students Association are in the process of scheduling speakers from JIMENA (Jews Indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa) and the Israeli consulate. Plan on attending!

Family Planning and Aids Policies in the International Community

The UC Davis Journal of International Law and Policy (JILP) will present its 2006 symposium on Family Planning and AIDS Policies in the International Community on March 3, 2006. This year's symposium will be a dialogue on the interaction and power imbalance between the developed and developing world as it plays out in family planning and AIDS policies.

Environmental Law Symposium

The Davis Environmental Law Society is hosting a symposium on the intersection of environmental regulation and federalism. A Controversial Nexus, is on Friday, February 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Buehler Alumni & Visitors Center and is free and open to the public.

Asian Pacific Islander Week

Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA) is hosting Asian Pacific Islander Week February 6-9. APALSA is an organization of law students interested in Asian-American legal issues and in the growth of the Asian-American legal community. APALSA was selected by the National Asian Pacific American Law School Association for the "Chapter of the Year" award last October for their dedication and commitment to educate, represent and advocate the interests of Asian Pacific American students and the community. Events are held in King Hall and are free and open to the public.

King Hall Legal Foundation Seeks Nominations for its Public Interest Alumnae/i Award

Each year, at the King Hall Legal Foundation's Annual Spring Auction, the Foundation's board recognizes and honors one alumna or alumnus who embodies the principles and values of the King Hall Legal Foundation (KHLF). KHLF strives to use the legal system to eliminate prejudice and discrimination of all forms, lessen sickness, poverty, and crime, increase education and economic opportunities among low-income communities, and focus community-wide attention on environmental concerns.

Law School Soccer Team Wins 2nd Place in University Championship "A" League

The Sean's Carnies, the Law School's intramural soccer team, came in 2nd place overall in the University's fall "A" League. The team includes members from each class and is currently competing in the Indoor Soccer "B" League and is currently undefeated. In their most recent game held on January 24, they won 6-0. The Sean's Carnies are named after team member Sean Carney '07
