Professor Larson writes book about treason, The Trials of Allegiance

When the topic of treason has arisen (often) in the national discourse over the past few years, Professor Carlton F. W. Larson has been the media’s go-to expert on its constitutional definition. Now, he has written a book on the subject.

The Trials of Allegiance: Treason, Juries, and the American Revolution (Oxford University Press) was released on Sept. 27. The book explores how the law of treason was central to the American Revolution, encompassing a host of issues from debates over the legitimacy of resistance activities to the treatment of Loyalists.

Larson was interviewed about the book for the blog The Way of Improvement Leads Home. Read the blog

The Stanford Center for Law and History is hosting a discussion with Larson about the book on Oct. 14.

Carlton Larson's research interests focus on constitutional law and legal history, with a strong emphasis on the 18th century. One of the nation’s leading authorities on the law of treason, he is the author of The Trials of Allegiance: Treason, Juries, and the American Revolution (Oxford University Press).
