Professor Feeney Discusses Use of Deadly Force in Sacramento Bee

In a September 10, 2008, article for the Sacramento Bee, Professor Floyd Feeney discussed the basic principle governing the use of deadly force when one is confronted by a home invader. Feeney noted that the premise that one's "home is a castle," and that even deadly force to protect it against armed invaders may be justified, is an idea that dates back to English common law.

Feeney, a professor of law at UC Davis, is a leader in the fields of criminal justice and election law. He is one of the founding faculty members of the Law School, having joined the staff in 1968.
