Swearing-in ceremony celebrates class of 2020's perseverance
UC Davis Law’s annual swearing-in ceremony, held virtually Feb. 3, drew more than 150 people, including recent King Hall graduates who passed the California Bar Exam and the friends and family members who came online to cheer them on.
Dean Kevin R. Johnson noted the exceptional accomplishments of the class of 2020, who switched to online classes during their final semester of law school and took the bar exam virtually and later in the year than expected, all because of the pandemic.
“What you accomplished by earning your law degree and passing the bar exam would be impressive in any year,” Johnson said. “But this year makes these achievements truly amazing. The pandemic changed your lives, your final semester of law school, and when and how you took the bar exam. But you persevered, with patience, resilience, and fortitude – qualities that will serve you well in your career.”
Expressing similar sentiments, Alumni Board President Kim Chase ’07, Sacramento Superior Court Judge Kara Ueda ’00 and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District Judge Troy Nunley also congratulated the recent graduates during the ceremony.
Ueda delivered the state oath and Nunley delivered the federal oath to King Hall’s newest crop of licensed attorneys.
