More than 150 Attend Open House for Prospective Applicants 2009
"If attendance at the event is any indication of current interest in the Law School, we can expect to see a lot of applicants for Fall 2010," said Sharon L. Pinkney, Assistant Dean for Admission and Enrollment.
A number of current students came early to mingle with attendees over coffee and pastries during the check-in. Dean Kevin R. Johnson and LSA President Victoria Hassid opened the formal program by welcoming the visitors and providing them with an overview of the myriad reasons to choose a King Hall education. The remaining agenda included a detailed overview of the admission and financial aid process followed by panels comprised of faculty, professional staff, and current students discussing Career Services, Externships & Clinics, Curriculum, and Student Life.
Students attending the events came from as far south as Los Angeles and as far north as Eureka. The audience included a diverse group including current undergraduates, recent college graduates, and some who are considering re-entry after having begun other careers.
All segments of the program incorporated an opportunity for questions from the participants. Many of the questions related to specific areas of legal interest, the general academic and social environment at King Hall and specifics on navigating the admission process or the job market after law school. Attendees approached panelists after each presentation to obtain additional information or to exchange email address information for further discussion.
Students interested in King Hall's outreach programs were invited to remain after the Open House to learn more about the application and selection process for the King Hall Outreach Program or the Prelaw Boot Camp. Associate Director of Admission Cristina Gapasin and Outreach Assistant Amanda Wilder coordinated the Open House and provided the information session on Outreach programs.
