Ken Starr Speaks to Wine Law Class at UC Davis

Ken Star and Tracy GenesenKen Starr, former Solicitor General of the United States and current President and Chancellor of Baylor University, spoke at King Hall on March 17, visiting the Wine Law class taught by Tracy K. Genesen.

Starr's visit came at the invitation of Genesen, who is General Counsel at Edrington USA and who also has taught Wine Law at Stanford, Harvard, and Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne. During the class, Starr spoke on conflicting areas of constitutional law in relation to the wine business and regulation of trade practices. 

This was Starr's second visit to the Law School in as many years. He spoke at King Hall in February 2014, delivering remarks on the closely watched U.S. Supreme Court case Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. and visiting Genesen's Wine Law class.

Starr, who has argued 36 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, served as Solicitor General during the administration of George H.W. Bush. He also served as U.S. Circuit Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1983 to 1989, and Independent Counsel from 1994 to 1999.  He is a graduate of Duke Law School and former clerk for Chief Justice Warren E. Burger from 1975 to 1977 and for Fifth Circuit Judge David W. Dyer from 1973 to 1974.
