Martin Luther King Jr. Hall is open for business!  This weekend, UC Davis School of Law began the 2021/22 school year.  With rigorous safety protocols in place, we returned to the building in person.

On Sunday, Aug. 15, we began the day with an orientation for the   First Generation Advocates  program, which provides information and support to first generation college and law students. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion fellow Alexis Elston organized the orientation, which included current law students discussing their experiences at King Hall.

Next, the UC Davis School of Law Alumni Board met in person at King Hall.  New Board President Judge Nancy Wieben Stock `76 ran her first meeting as head of the board.  I had the pleasure of updating the board on health and safety protocols, the Class of 2024, and more goings on at the law school. It was great to see the board members who give up so much time for their law school alma mater.

The capstone of the day was the annual BBQ for first year law students in the Alumni Center on the UC Davis Arboretum.  It was a warm evening but the first-year students were excited to be on the UC Davis campus. The BBQ was great with ice cream sundaes as the special dessert treat.

Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Kristen Mercado (known to all the students as “Dean M”), Judge Stock, and Law Student Association President Nathan Searcy (3L) offered words of encouragement to the new members of the King Hall community.

It was an amazing day. The first-year students began orientation the next day. Two stellar King Hall Professors, Katherine Florey and David Horton, taught the orientation to U.S. law class.

The 2021/22 academic year is off to a rip-roaring start!
