Class of 1993

Class Notes Updated August, 2015

University of California, Davis, King Hall Class of  ’93.   It is hard to believe that we graduated 22 years ago.    I want to thank the 54 folks below for taking time to send along your update.  It is wonderful to hear from old (figuratively) friends.  I reached out to everyone I had information on and followed up with a few folks 3 or 4 times to get a large response.   Some folks I never heard from and others, I don’t have good contact information.  If someone you know from our class is missing from this update, please contact them and ask them to send me an update and contact information.   By the way, I have contact information for the folks below so if you want to get in touch, let me know and I will let them know you are looking for them.

As you can see below, I changed the format of the update and even included your law school picture. I also included pictures sent to me with updates.  I used your words verbatim—no edits.  I have had fun putting together the updates over the years and thank you very much for your participation.  I hope you enjoy this update and the new format.  Please do keep in touch and don’t hesitate to contact me please.  I can be reached at dmccray@bdlaw.com or 415-262-4025.

Thank you all,

David McCray

Ali
ZAHID ALI . Sorry to have been so slow to respond to your request. My wife Sandy and I are still in Sacramento, and I'm out of the law business and in IT consulting for CGI. (I used to lament that nobody had heard of my firm, but that problem has disappeared now that we're well known for our role in healthcare.gov. Is that an improvement? You tell me!) We do a fair amount of travel, mostly domestic, including frequent trips to Atlanta where both my brothers have relocated. We just returned from a trip to Oregon for the Shakespeare Festival. On the last day of our trip, we visited Crater Lake (photo attached) and then stayed at the same hotel in Klamath Falls where we'd attended Vince Fabrizio's wedding years ago.

As you probably know by now, I got to see several of our old classmates at our 20 year reunion a couple of years ago. Just to name a few, Shannon, Jared, Eric Ratinoff, Alison, Dave Arietta, Perry, Rick Weisberg, and John Baum were at the reunion itself, and more people showed up at a reception that evening including Gail Blanchard-Sager and Angela. One thing I always appreciated about King Hall is that our class was small enough that we knew pretty much everyone, which made it that much more fun to attend the reunion and catch up with everyone. The following year, I reconnected with Jocelyn Julian '94 and Paul Hundley '94 when they came to their reunion.

Other than that, I haven't been in touch with many King Hall friends. Sandy and I ran into Susan Nelsen and her boys at Jamba Juice last fall, and we subsequently had dinner with her and husband Albert Roldan '92 to catch up a bit. In addition, we're in contact with Marc Gorelnik, mostly through the magic of Facebook but we did get to have dinner together when he was in Sacramento a year or two ago. That's about it for me. I hope you're doing well, and I appreciate you herding us cats in order to keep us all informed. Take care!

Anderson
DAVID ANDERSON . I am at the Law Offices of David W. Anderson in Walnut Creek, California practicing business, construction, and real estate law. I am married with three children and a dog. I have kept in touch with former classmate David Arietta, who also works in Walnut Creek. Lately I enjoy camping and serving on the Advisory School Board of my children's school.

Arietta
DAVID ARIETTA Going on the 16 th year of having my own practice and yes still enjoy the practice of law.Still a certified specialist in bankruptcy law but have diversified the practice over the years to include trusts, will, estates, probate, trust administration and a certain amount of trust litigation.Only live a mile from the office and really like living in Walnut Creek. My wife and I have been coaching my youngest daughter's junior baseball team for 3 years now. Undefeated this year and took first place. My 8 year old likes to follow the Oakland A's and hopes to pitch next year in little league. My other daughter is 11 years old and plays on a girl's fastpitch softball team. Lots of fun to watch her play. In my freetime, I enjoy gardening around my house, playing tennis with my wife, helping to manage a family vineyard in Mendocino County and when time permits going salmon and trout fishing. Spring break was Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce National Parks. Headed to Vancouver and Whistler in late July. Still hang out with David Anderson.

Baum
JOHN BAUM : I continue my fulltime practice as a copyright and trademark lawyer, which most days takes me around the world (without leaving my office) with help from local counsel where my clients products and services travel. The world has become a dramatically smaller place for all of us in the twenty or so years since we started practicing law. I have my eye at the moment on our nearest neighbor, Canada, which is in the process of completely rewriting its trademark laws in ways that directly (and mostly positively) impact US businesses. Intellectual property law still entertains me. In my spare time I continue my nearly 25-year involvement with the Lefkowitz trademark moot court competition. I also chase after two young children and am an enthusiastic Little League coach of my son's baseball team. I am in regular contact with Marc Gorelnik, who is in private practice, serves as general counsel for a trade association, is involved with water and fisheries advocacy, and not long ago testified before Congress on those issues.

Blanchard-Saiger
GAIL BLANCHARD-SAIGER In 2008 I started my own firm providing advice and counsel to employers, primarily on wage and hour issues (specializing in wage/hour audits). Since 2006 I have also been the VP of Labor and Employment for the California Hospital Association. In that role I provide leadership for state and federal legislative and regulatory activity regarding California hospital human resources and labor relations. John and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year. We have two children Ben just finished the first semester of his sophomore year at ASU and has returned to Sacramento to continue his higher education. He missed home Emily will be a senior at McClatchy High School and is looking at colleges in San Diego and Portland. We are taking a family vacation to Vancouver this summer for the women's world cup. I live in Sacramento and James Jones occasionally graces my family with his presence. I also visit with Trisha McAlmond (Connors) and Julianna Annastastos when I can. They both look EXACTLY like they did as 1Ls.

Braun
CRAIG D. BRAUN. I just celebrated my 25th wedding anniversary with my wife - Rayanne. Both of our children are home for the Summer. My son (Jacob) will be finishing up at USC next year; my daughter (Elsa) will be starting her 2nd year at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia when August rolls around. I have had my own law firm for almost 5 years now, practicing real property, business and construction law – all litigation related. My practice is located in Bakersfield, where I have been since 1993. I see Richard Middlebrook every so often, as he is also practicing here in town, albeit in the area of DUI defense.

Broesamle
Carolyn (Broesamle) Vondriska
. Gil and I currently live in Ojai, California, with our three kids – Julia (16), Tyler (12), and Brady (8). We returned to California in 2007 from the Pacific Northwest, where Gil was a U.S. Air Force combat search and rescue helicopter pilot and I was a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. I am currently doing estate planning at the firm where three generations of my family have been clients, Waite, Jacobs & Atkinson. It was my least favorite class in law school, so I am enjoying the irony of that because I love practicing in this area after so many years in litigation. We raise and train puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, which is a non-profit based in San Rafael. For vacations, we go to Yosemite as often as we can, including an off-the-grid location without wifi, TV, or landlines. Hobbies include hiking, reading, fly-fishing, and . . . who am I kidding, I don’t really have time for hobbies other than my kids’ activities – baseball, basketball, Boy Scouts, band (my daughter is a drummer and a clarinetist), and homework. I really look forward to the Class of ’93 update because I don’t get to keep in touch with nearly as many classmates as I would like, but I do get to see Debbie (Hulse) Cussen with some regularity and enjoy keeping up with people on Facebook.

Cabanday
ORLANDO CABANDAY. I have my own firm where my practice involves civil trial work involving complex, commercial litigation; we typically take on matters for our clients that are nearing trial. I am and have been married to a saint of a woman, Teresa, for the last 18 years, and have two boys, Michael and Rocco -- both are actively involved in travel basketball and baseball respectively. We live in Southern California. About 3 months ago, I fortuitously met Warren Fujimoto in LASC, Van Nuys; I had not heard a peep from Warren in the decade leading up to that chance meeting. I have spoken to a handful of our former classmates, including Eric Ratinoff.

Campbell
BETH CAMPBELL. I am still living in Sacramento and doing criminal appeals, but I've left the appellate project and have been solo since 2007. As my final act at the appellate project, I argued Brendlin v. California before the United States Supreme Court, while six months pregnant, and won 9-0. I would say it's been all downhill since then, except Penelope (now 7) was born a few months later, and Beatrix (now 4) came along in due course. These days I spend a lot of time collecting affirmances and driving people to tennis and ballet lessons. The only people I see from law school are Kurt Ramlo, Zahid Ali, Alec Rose, and Karen Clapp Cruse, and I only see them on Facebook.”

Citko
JUDY THOMAS (formerly known as Citko). Remarried on Memorial Day 2014 (hence the name change). My husband, Tom, is a great guy. Works in Haz Mat for SMUD. So he has a completely different kind of job than I do. Together we have four sons. Chronologically, they’re 2.5 years apart. School-wise, they are/were each in a different grade. So, we’re in the midst of a graduation a year from High School for four years. John, the oldest, is in the Air Force. Kyle just finished his Freshman year at UCLA. Joey just graduated from High School and plans to go into the military. Anton will be Senior in high school in the fall. They’re all great guys, get along very well, and we have lot of fun together! Blended families are not easy. We are truly blessed. Tom also has a daughter who’s 23 years and decided to start a family at a young age. So we have three grandchildren as well, all living in No Dakota. I’m CEO of the Coalition for Compassionate Care. Our mission is to help people get the care they want in the face of serious illness. If you’ve had a loved one die in the last few years and they had the “pink form,” you know what I’m talking about. I love my job! We’ve spent a lot of time this last year working on our house. But we also like to play and travel. Tom and I frequently take walks along the American River to see the deer and feed the ducks. When it comes to travel, the boys like cruises, so we have our annual family cruise to the Caribbean each summer. That’s my life in a nutshell. I hope you’re doing well !!

Clapp
KAREN (CLAPP) CRUSE. Please see entry for Kyle Cruse for the update on the Cruse family.

Cruse
KYLE CRUSE. I am doing med-mal defense with the in-house law firm for the Cooperative of American Physicians – a group of 12,000 physicians who provide their own malpractice defense and indemnification coverage through a trust. Karen (Clapp ’93) and I recently our 20th anniversary last fall. We have 3 kids – Dana (19) will be a junior at UC Davis in the fall; Haley (17) will be a senior, and is going to Stanford in 2016; and Kevin (14) is starting high school this fall. Hope all is well with you!

DesJardins
MICHELLE Des JARDINS : I’m still with the California Attorney General’s Office (since 1995), working as a supervising deputy attorney general. I work in the San Diego office. I’ve been married to Bob Hicks (class of ’93) since 1996 and we have one son, now 14. I am also on the board of Growing Liberia’s Children, a non-profit that I co-founded to help schools in Liberia rebuild following a devastating civil war. Bob has his own law firm, R.W. Hicks & Associates, which engages primarily in business litigation. I look forward to hearing what everyone else has been up to. Thanks for doing this!

Dudley
DON DUDLEY . Enjoying 20+ years working at UCD. Currently the Director of Student Judicial Affairs addressing student conduct and behavior issues of every sort. Still have the opportunity to work with the Law School when problems pop up. Married, live in Davis, with two dogs that rule the roost.

Emerson
LINDA EMERSON Greetings from the Eastern Sierra! I have been retired from the practice of law for a decade now. My husband retired at the same time, and we resumed our former lives as climbers/mountaineers in Bishop, California - one of the world's great climbing meccas. Over the years, we have volunteered with a number of local nonprofits, learned to speak Spanish, and traveled extensively - everywhere from Tanzania to Bolivia to Vanuatu. Most recently, in response to our local school district's desperate need, I began substitute teaching. I teach K-12, dual language and special ed classes. It has been a fun, challenging and rewarding experience. The last time I visited Davis, I had the great pleasure of meeting up with my former professor, Hap Dunning, for the first time in more than 20 years. It doesn't seem possible that so much time could have passed. I hope this finds you and the rest of the class of '93 happy, healthy and pursuing your passions. Thanks for staying in touch.

Ewin
DEREK EWIN. I still have my own law office. I am practicing criminal defense in the Bay Area. I have had my own office since 2005. Prior to that I worked at the Contra Costa DA's office from 1994 - 2005. Last summer my daughter had a daughter, so I am a proud grandpa. Everything they say about being a grandparent is true. I love it. My son is in high school and competing in the Junior Olympics for Water Polo in Southern California this summer. I also spend a lot of time mountain biking in the East Bay hills, dirt biking in the Central Mountains, Sierras and Mojave Desert, and teaching at my church.

Fabrizio
VINCE FABRIZIO . I am still a Supervising Deputy District Attorney at the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. I have been there for 21 years. I am still having a lot of fun. I have been married to my wife Kim for almost 18 years. We have two teenagers (one who is about to start driving!!!!) I look forward to hearing what everyone is doing.

Faucher
JOHN FAUCHER : I'm practicing these days as a solo in Westlake Village, just outside Thousand Oaks, doing tax litigation and bankruptcy law. No published opinions, but a lot of fun things getting done. It looks like daughter Sophie, now a freshman at Rice University in Houston, wants to become a lawyer too. She has worked as my assistant, and has asked for contacts in the legal community. I'm very proud. I occasionally see Don Davis, but otherwise see almost no UC Davis alums.

Fix
CHRISTINE (FIX) LOFGREN I’m amazed to realize it’s been more than 20 years since we graduated from King Hall. After spending almost 15 years with two law firms, I made the leap to an in-house job at Toyota 8 years ago. I’m still with Toyota, handling all kinds of intellectual property matters. Sometimes I feel like I work in a drive through fast food restaurant with all of the variety of issues I have to address every day, but the days go by quickly. I’ve been married to my husband, Brad, for 22 years. Though we don’t have any kids, we have nieces and nephews to spoil (and we don’t have college tuitions to worry about). We’ve been fortunate enough to be able to enjoy some nice vacations over the years. Some of our recent trips have been Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and Spain. We really enjoy exploring new cultures, foods, wines, and other experiences such as scuba diving, jet boating, and stand-up paddling. When I’m at home, I enjoy cooking, entertaining, taking all kinds of fitness classes, and bonding with our two cats. I’ve taken up the game of golf in the last few years. It’s been both fun and frustrating, but I can look back and see progress. I’m sure I’ve tested my husband’s patience along the way, but it’s now something we can enjoy together. Here’s a photo of us after golf in Santa Barbara. Though I sometimes run into King Hall classmates at conferences, I haven’t been to as many in the last few years and I wasn’t able to make it to the reunions. Maybe the class notes will help put more of us in touch with each other.

Fix2

Freeman
SHERYL (FREEMAN) SCHAFFNER is thoroughly enjoying serving as General Counsel for the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, protecting over 63,000 acres of open space land and all of its wild inhabitants and bipedal visitors on the Peninsula (S.F. Bay Area). However much fun that is, though, the grandkids are even better!

Geyer
JOHN GEYER . Well, it is probably ironic that the one person who wanted to leave Davis as quickly as possible following graduation ended up living only 8 miles away in the town of Dixon. I was never able to get back to my roots in Southern California. I ended up taking a job out of law school with the firm of Laughlin, Falbo, Levy & Moresi in Sacramento. I became a partner with the firm in 2001, then the managing partner of the Sacramento office in 2007 – and this year, I became the managing partner of the entire firm – 11 offices statewide, 150 lawyers. The only downside – I now commute to our home office in Oakland 4 days a week (as part of my deal – I still work in Sacramento on Fridays – no way am I dealing with that I-80 traffic going east on a Friday!) I am married to Angela who was living with me during law school. We were married in 1995 in Maui and now have 3 wonderful boys – Jacob (13), Nikko (11), and Kobe (7). They keep Angela busy all the time with little league, school, and their music practices, not to mention the utter zaniness that 3 boys in a household will bring. I remain a devoted L.A. Dodger fan – I follow all 162 games of each and every season. That will never change. My lofty goal of seeing a baseball game in every stadium in the country is becoming a bit more realistic as each year passes – I have now visited 20 major league parks. Only 10 to go! Angela and I love to plan family vacations. The dream is to eventually buy a place in Hawaii. We’ll see….. Hope all is well with you and everyone from the class of ’93!

Hildreth
RUSSELL HILDRETH . I am still working at the Attorney General's Office doing environmental law, mostly water and air quality. My wife and I just got back from Greece and we're in the process of remodeling our house in Davis. Hope you are doing well.

Hulse
DEBORAH (HULSE) CUSSEN . Real estate is so busy right now I’m working more than ever, but I guess that is a good thing. My daughters are getting bigger – one is a sophomore in high school and the other just finishing 6th grade. We do like to travel – we’ve been to Thailand, Bali, France, and all over the Caribbean (where we all go diving). We’re going to Greece this summer and India for a wedding in November. Other than that, life has been all work and no play …. Take care!

Kirk
BRANDON KIRK . Brandon stopped practicing in 1999, the best decision he ever made. He is a consultant working in the photographic industry, creating marketing and sales programs for manufacturers. He also handles the business affairs of several high-profile photographers. Brandon is an avid triathlete and finished the Hawaii Ironman in 2008. Brandon married his law school girlfriend Wendy Mesnick ('93), now Wendy Kirk. Wendy is a partner at Ziffren, Brittenham in Century City. She practices entertainment law and primarily represents actors, directors, and writers, but also has a couple professional athlete clients. Wendy and Brandon live in LA, are happily married, and have two sons, Lucas (14) and Colin (12), both of whom share Wendy's love of football and sports in general.

Leyden Li
MICHELLE LEYDEN LI King Hall Class of 1993/UC Davis Graduate School of Management Class of 1995 (Joint JD/MBA Program) I can’t believe it’s been over twenty years since we graduated from King Hall in 1993. I stayed on after that to complete the joint JD/MBA program, graduating from the UC Davis Graduate School of Management in June 1995. With both of my newly minted degrees in hand, I was lucky enough to land a spot at Intel Corporation and I’ve happily spent the last 22 years in the high tech/semiconductor industry in a variety of roles including product management, business development, sales and marketing. I am currently senior director of product & segment marketing at Qualcomm in San Diego. My husband Hong-Shen and I have been married for 27 years (yes, he stayed by me through law school and business school!) and we have two children. Our son Alex is 21 years old and will graduate from UCLA this year with a BS in bio engineering. He is applying for medical school with the hope of becoming an orthopaedic surgeon - keeping my fingers crossed for UC Davis Medical School! Our daughter Grace is twelve years old and keeps us busy with school and sports including softball, swimming and basketball. When we’re not busy with work and kids, we enjoy all the outdoor activities California has to offer including hiking, camping and hanging out at the beach.

Lipman
FRANCINE LIPMAN. On July 1, 2012 I joined the faculty of the William S. Boyd School of Law, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as a William S. Boyd Professor of Law. I have been thrilled to work with the greater tax community in Nevada, including King Hall School of Law alum Wes Wong, IRS Chief Counsel and even on state tax bills resulting in a new business tax in Nevada to pay for better education throughout the state. This May I served on an Access to Justice panel at Law & Society 2015 with Dean Kevin R. Johnson and former Dean Rex R. Perschbacher and King Hall alumna and fellow law professor Deborah Bassett and in November of 2014, I had the opportunity to see the amazing new library and King Hall addition when I presented my poverty tax work at the Class Critical Theory Legal Conference at King Hall. Any King Hall alums in or visiting Nevada please do drop me an email so that I can welcome you to the close Nevada legal community. Special shout out and thank you to David McCray for the welcome gentle reminders to make these updates a reality. http://law.unlv.edu/faculty/francine-lipman.html

Maddux
DEBORAH MADDUX . Professionally, I am a Shareholder and founding Partner of the Sacramento-based law firm, Van Dermyden Maddux Law Corporation. The firm has grown by 80% since its inception in 2011, so that has kept me very busy. We focus on workplace, compliance and education investigations – which give us a unique opportunity to help resolve conflict and improve people’s lives. It is fascinating, rewarding and challenging work – so I feel very lucky. My twenty-something step kids have graduated from college and are off living their own lives in Long Beach and San Diego. My daughter Rachael is a Junior in High School, and interested in Biology, not law. I have the cutest dog in the world (seriously) a sweet and cuddly yorkie-poodle. I still live in Davis, and run into our former law professors and classmates from time to time at Café Bernardo. I cross paths with Don Dudley occasionally because he works at UC Davis. In the past year, I was able to spend time with Kurt Ramlo and Sue Strasburger Matuska. I have tried to catch up with Alison Stewart Cocotis, so maybe this will be our year. Alison, call me! Anybody who comes through Sacramento or Davis please look me up. I would love to connect.

McAlmond
TRISHA (McALMOND) CONNERS . We are excited to be back in California after 17 years of living in Chicago, Spokane, Portland, St. Paul, and Ridgewood NJ. We live in Los Gatos. I am currently looking for legal work in the Bay Area. My specialty is consumer law, FDCPA, FCRA and consumer bankruptcy. Am learning criminal justice work at the Northern California Innocence Project. I would love to continue work at a non-profit either in criminal justice or poverty law. Our sons are 15 and 13 years old. We all love basketball—Go Warriors!

McCray
DAVID McCRAY . After working 30 years with the government (21 years active duty U.S. Air Force and 9 years as Assistant Chief Counsel with Caltrans), I have ventured into the world of private practice. In November 2014, I joined the environmental law firm Beveridge & Diamond (www.bdlaw.com) and am very happy that I made the move. My family is doing just fine. We have 2 sons in college and 2 daughters in high school. My wife, Dolores, and I have been married for 28 years now. I coached baseball, basketball, junior league football and high school football and am still a proud Dodgers, Lakers and 49er fan.

Mesnick
WENDY (MESNIK) KIRK . See entry for Brandon Kirk but I will include the specifics about Wendy here as well as stated by Brandon.

Middlebrook
RICHARD MIDDLEBROOK. Still practicing exclusively in DUI defense. Currently AV Rated in DUI Defense by Martindale-Hubbell. Been named a California Super Lawyer in DUI Defense. And have a perfect 10 Rating on Avvo.com. I’ve now tried 231 DUI trials with a 99.4% success rate and handled over 6500 DUI’s with a statewide practice still based out of Bakersfield. By the end of the year, we will be opening offices in Sacramento, Beverly Hills and Newport Beach to accommodate clients in all areas of California. On a personal level, I continue to travel extensively and just returned from a four month worldwide trip that included Reykjavik, Iceland, Vienna, Prague, Ireland, Turks and Caicos, Florence, Venice, Paris, and various parts of the United States and Canada. Im an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and hold Season Tickets. Don’t miss a game if I can help it. Hope that isn’t too boring. Hope your world is amazing.

Millstone
JEREMY MILLSTONE . I'm still toiling away at Millstone Peterson & Watts, LLP, handling employment matters, mostly defense. Life has not turned out as expected, but it's a great ride nonetheless. I'm a proud parent again (my third) child, Lorenzo Elijah Giacomo Collins Millstone!) and will be getting married this October in Australia. I may just stay!

Moiseyev
NATASHA MOISEYEV . Have had a circuitious route to my current position. I, my husband (David Foster '95) and our two girls all were diagnosed about 6 years ago with late stage Lyme disease that put us out of commission for some time. I am now the Family Law Facilitator at Merced Superior Court, my husband is the Civil Research Attorney there, our older daughter, Sasha, is graduating from Clovis North this June and heading off the Bryn Mawr in the fall, and our younger daughter, Maya, will be a senior. She is on the Varsity Mock Trial team at Clovis North, of which I assistant coach the JV gang. Clovis North won 10th in the world at the Empire Mock Trial tournament in New York last year, so we are really proud of that group. Professor Imwinkelreid kindly gave me permission to excerpt his Evidentiary Foundations book in a training manual and workbook I am developing for our JV kids. That's pretty much it! We live in the Fig Garden area of Fresno and love it. Hope all are thriving and happy.

NICK MORGAN. After 10 years at DLA Piper, in March I left my position as West Coast Chair of the Securities Enforcement Practice to start a boutique SEC and government investigations and litigation defense firm, Zaccaro Morgan LLP, in downtown LA. My older daughter (born in Davis in 1992) is finishing up her first year of law school at UT Austin, and my younger daughter (born in Davis in 1994) just finished her junior year at Wesleyan. My wife Genevieve and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary in July (having married the summer before we both started at Davis). I had breakfast with Dan Scharf a few weeks ago, and he and Jenny and their kids all seem to be doing exceptionally well.

Moses
JARED MOSES . I’m still a judge for the LA Superior Court. It’ll be seven years in September. I’m the supervising judge in the Alhambra courthouse. My court is the felony calendar and trial court. My twin boys turn 17 in November and we do a lot of traveling (this year Ireland, England and Croatia). Overall, life is good. I hope all’s well with you.

Pannell
ARIANE PANNEL. I am working in-house at LinkedIn on commercial contract negotiations, continuing my 20+-year quest to finally win the Battle of the Forms. My daughters just graduated from 8th and 5th grades, and my husband is thrilled that they're finally ready to study interesting math. They just want to get their homework done so they can play Splatoon.

Presby
SHANNON PRESBY . I am still working in the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office. I have been in the Justice System Integrity Division for the past 7 years where I now serve as the Assistant Head Deputy. We are the unit that investigates and prosecutes criminal misconduct by persons who work in the justice system. We review police uses of force, officer involved shootings and in custody death incidents which, as you can imagine, keeps us quite busy. I am starting trial next week on a use of force case which could garner some media attention (People v. O'Callaghan). In 2012 I prosecuted an LAPD detective for a murder that she committed in 1985. That case, People v. Lazarus also had some media attention. Lazarus' conviction is currently up on appeal. My wife Clara (formerly known as Brigitte) and I live in Los Angeles with our 13 year old daughter Francesca. Clara is still writing and acting. She performed last week in a "spoken word" competition here in Los Angeles. We see Daniel and Jenny Scharf and their three children regularly.

Price
GEORGE PRICE . I’m currently heading up the Federal Compliance Program for Cigna, a national health services organization. This means that for the last several years I’ve been drowning in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) implementation. J I’ve been at Cigna for 14 years, and have been in this industry for the last 20. Although Cigna is a Connecticut-based company, I’ve been able to work out of an office in Los Angeles, so I’m very grateful I’ve been able to continue with my career without having to leave California.

Poglinco
JOHN POGLINCO . My wife and I moved away from Woodland, CA 6 years ago to Pittsburgh, PA. where the landscape is green year round because it rains so much. Rain in summer and very cold temps in winter have been a challenge, but we have adapted. I've been quite busy working here as the Deputy Chief US Probation Officer for Western Pennsylvania. Been very much involved in the day to day practicalities of an evolving federal criminal justice system. If anyone ever has business in the federal court here please drop by. Hope you are doing well out in SF. Thanks for reaching out.

Poglinco
ALESHIA POOLE . I have recently returned to practicing full-time after being out or part-time for a while. I was practicing commercial litigation in Chicago where my son was born and moved to New Jersey where my daughter was born. I was in NJ for eight years before returning to CA. Happy to return. I'm practicing employment law at a small firm in the Bay Area now. Have connected with a few of my UCD classmates (Demetrius Sheldon, Vangeria Owens and Eric Ratnoff).

Ratinoff
ERIC RATINOFF . This year I am starting my own law firm after 22 years in practice. I'm really excited about it and I'm even more excited about the opportunity to chart my own course in the practice without the limitations imposed by others. I've been very fortunate to have been recognized by my peers in many different ways, and to been recognized by my clients along the way as well. I continue to try personal injury, insurance bad faith, product liability and medical malpractice cases. For all the typical braggy stuff, people can look at my website at www.Eric Ratinoff.com. I don't know that that's really something that anyone wants to look at for a class notes update, however. On the more important stuff, today(June 3rd) I celebrate my 14th wedding anniversary to my beautiful wife Patrice. We live in Sacramento and have two great kids, Molly (10) and Julian (eight).

GARY RAY . I have made two stops since Davis. First, I was at Sidley Austin in the Dallas office. My practice centered around intellectual property, primarily patent litigation. The second stop was general counsel for a telecommunications company (360networks Corporation) in Boulder, Colorado. We sold the US network approximately three years ago. Since then I have been wrapping up litigation and other outstanding matters for the foreign subsidiary companies that we carved out of the US transaction. I completed that work a few months ago, and now I am searching for the next opportunity. In the meantime, I am staying out of trouble by doing patent work for some startup clients in Boulder. On a personal note, Kathy and I recently celebrated our 25th anniversary. We have two sons — both are students at the University of Colorado.

Revai
ERIK REVAI . Professionally, I’ve been at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco since 2001 and GC since 2010. Personally, I live in San Rafael with my wife and two boys, ages 12 and 9.

Rhoades
GARY RHOADES . I’ve been a Deputy City Attorney in the Consumer Protection Division at the Santa Monica City Attorney’s office for nine years. We investigate and prosecute business fraud cases along with civil rights violations. I also have a hay farm in Missouri, now in its 12th year of operation and amazing retreat to counter-balance the Los Angeles life. Just got back from a weeklong trip to Arizona with my brothers for baseball in Phoenix, photography in the canyons, and shoot-outs in Tombstone.

Roadarmel
JAY ROADARMEL is practicing trust and estates law in Pleasanton. He is happily remarried and enjoying life.

Scharf
DAN SCHARF . See JENNY WAYLAND for the full family information but here is a bit she submitted regarding Dan: “Dan works for Amazon Studios here in LA, and we have three kids, ages 16, 14, and 11. “

Schrimp
ANGELA SCHRIMP de la VERGNE . After 18 years with the same law firm, I left Knox, Lemmon, Anapolsky & Schrimp in September 2012 to practice law with my father. He wanted me to go to work with him 20 years ago when I first came out of law school, but the timing was not right for me. I am now Of Counsel to Damrell, Nelson, Schrimp, Pallios, Pacher & Silva and re-opened a Sacramento office for the firm. The move allowed me to keep my client base and work with my father on his matters which essentially consist of complex commercial litigation. Since the Damrell firm’s main office is in Modesto, I spend a lot of time working up and down the Central Valley for agricultural interests. I am really enjoying the time with my dad. On the home front, I am married to Marc de la Vergne who works in housing and community development for the Capital Area Development Authority (CADA). We have a son (Evan, age 8) and identical twin girls (Maria and Claire, age 5) who keep us VERY busy and active. I see both Victoria Katchis and Kara Read Spangler on a regular basis. Thanks so much for being persistent!

Shelton
DEMETRIUS SHELTON . The Honorable Demetrius Shelton is an Administrative Law Judge for the California Department of Social Services and prior to this served as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Oakland for over a decade. Shelton is also a Past President of the National Bar Association (“NBA”), the oldest and largest bar association of color in the world, a Past Vice President of the State Bar of California, and the Immediate Past National General Counsel of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Shelton is also a Past President of the Charles Houston Bar Association and the California Association of Black Lawyers (“CABL”). Shelton presently serves as CABL’s Chair of the Committee on the Courts which has a focus of promoting judicial diversity on all levels of the bench. Shelton is frequently called upon by local, legal and national media and organizations to provide commentary. Shelton recently provided testimony as a featured panelist at the American Bar Association’s “Stand Your Ground Hearings” as shown on C-Span, and provides commentary on youth interactions with law enforcement officials and cases involving allegations of police officers use of excessive force. Shelton is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including the 2014 “Jefferson Award” sponsored by CBS and KPIX News, the Oral Lee Brown Foundation’s 2015 “Pioneer Award”, the Oakland NAACP’s Centennial Anniversary honoree, the Judicial Council of the State Bar of California’s Bench-Bar Coalition “Bar Leader of the Year”, and the Alameda County Bar Association’s “Distinguished Service Award”. Shelton currently serves with great pride on King Hall’s Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Schibles
ELISE SHIBLES . I’m practicing customs and international trade law in San Francisco. Right now the focus of my free time is any way I can force the janitorial protestors at 630 Sansome to lose the drums, air horns, bull horn and whistles. Any and all suggestions welcome. I may also need defense counsel if I’m unsuccessful in legal options to shut them up!

Soher
SALLY (SOHER) NESMITH . I've been in the Los Angeles Public Defender's Office for 20 years last February. I do a specialized type of mental health law and I love it. I live in the San Fernando Valley with a great husband, a cute second grader and a big dog. Thanks for all your hard work!

Stewart
ALLISON STEWART COCOTIS . Hello friends from Class of '93! I live in the East Bay (Lafayette) with my husband Paul and our three kids. Teenage and preteen daughters Lindsay and Blaire keep us on our toes, and 8-year old son Stewart provides the comic relief. I no longer practice law, but somewhere along the line I discovered I enjoy teaching and have begun a credential program to teach high school French and Spanish. I have so many wonderful memories of King Hall and enjoyed catching up with some of you at our reunion. Fond wishes to all!

Stewart B
BRIDGET STEWART : Still at Napa D.A., but working ½ time now in the Consumer/Environmental Unit, and ran into Gary Rhoades at a conference in San Diego recently. Just celebrated 35 years with my partner (married, but wife just doesn’t fit her). Loving the time with my fabulous boys who are 11 and 13 and eat like locusts.

Thaxter
JULIEANNA (Thaxter) ANASTASSATOS . Nothing much new to report from here, which is really good news! We are healthy and happy and blessed, still living in a suburb of Memphis, busy raising our four kids. I'm still contracting for a local civil litigation attorney (research and brief writing) as well as with USAA on insurance compliance and coverage issues, working from home. Chris is still flying for FedEx. Our kids are growing up and moving out! Our oldest will be headed to Albuquerque to attend UNM this summer. Our next two boys will be in high school together, both playing snare in the marching band, and both on the lacrosse team. Our daughter just finished 5th grade at a great private school for kids with dyslexia. Got to spend time with Gail Blanchard-Saiger last summer in Sacramento! Just like old times! It was great to see her and hear about her thriving practice, which she loves. Looking forward to hearing more from our classmates. Thanks for reaching out!

Wang
GRACE WANG . I don't know where my last update left off so I'll provide a brief summary of life after UCD Law. Associate in LA office of CA firm for 5 years. Corporate counsel consultant for LexisNexis for 13 years then 3 years as litigation solutions specialist. Last year I made the decision to leave full time employment & become a full time mom to my 3 kids. Since then we've gone to see family in Taiwan, skiing in Canada & taking in the sights in Australia. Hope all is well with you and looking forward to hearing about what all of our classmates have been up to these last few years.

Wayland
JENNY WAYLAND . I work as an ALJ for the state, hearing tax, disability and unemployment cases. Dan Scharf (my husband) works for Amazon Studios here in LA, and we have three kids, ages 16, 14, and 11. We still see Jared Moses who is a Superior Court judge here in LA, as well as Shannon Presby, who works as a DA in the public integrity unit and has tried some high profile cases recently. For Memorial Day weekend, we were to Joshua Tree with the Presby’s, and have traveled with them for the past few summers with our families to Belize last summer, and backpacking in Yosemite the summer before. I am also in touch with Lara Gilman, who is a partner at Farella Braun and Martel, a law firm in SF doing trust, wills and estate planning. I also see Lynne Zelhart who lives here in LA, and works as an FBI agent.

Weisberg
RICK WEISBERG . Since law school I have been living in and around Foster City, California, just south of San Francisco. My entire career has been spent in-house, first in a biotech company, then a dot-com business, then technology hardware, software, services, and eventually telecommunications. That most recent position was as General Counsel for a company in San Francisco that designs and provides electronic communication services for correctional facilities. Quite an interesting market. I left that position several months ago and have been searching for my next role ever since. On the personal front, after spending the first two decades following our law school graduation as a single man, I finally met the most wonderful woman when she was visiting the United States as a contestant in the Miss Deaf International Pageant. She was that year's Miss Deaf China. Those old Sign Language lessons came in handy, and in April of 2014 we were married. The officiant at our wedding was none other than our old classmate, the Honorable Jared Moses (pictures with Jared in them attached). It was great having old and new friends alike share in the moment. We have two dogs right now, but plan to start a family (of actual people, not pets!) soon. Take care, Rick

CLASS OF '93! I have had the honor of reporting on your accomplishments for the past 16 years...yes that's right folks...and I must say that I am saddened by the minimal response I received this time. We usually have thirty or more folks take the time to share their news. I thank those of you that did take the time to send a note along and share your wonderful news.

I enjoy writing this update for you and hope that we can improve on the next one.

As for the DAVID McCRAY family, we are doing well. Dolores and I will be celebrating our 22 nd anniversary this year and our four kids: Tyler 15, Kyle 13, Jenny 9 and Kristy 8 are growing up much too fast for our liking. We really enjoy being parents and the many sporting events and school activities that we participate. I am still with the California Department of Transportation and absolutely love environmental law and am also doing some tribal law as well. We just added two golden retriever puppies to our family that we got from a rescue service so life is full of chew toys and other chewed materials right now.

JUDY CITKO writes that she is still running a non-profit, the California Coalition for Compassionate Care, and loving every minute of it. They have a lot of very successful projects and we'regrowing. Her son Kyle is now 13 and Anton is 11. Paintball is their newest hobby. The three of themwent on a 10-day road trip to Yellowstone this summer.. They saw lots of geysers and bison. It was quite an adventure.

NICK MORGAN says he is "still toiling away as a partner at DLA Piper in Los Angeles, defending the downtrodden and oppressedin SEC litigation and investigations. My oldest daughter, Anya, who was born when we were 3Ls, is now looking at colleges, which means we all must be getting pretty damn old. My younger daughter, Tess, who was also born in Davis (OK, Woodland), but just after law school, is going to be a sophomore in high school. Genevieve and I are enjoying watching both kids grow up and trying not to think too much about what comes next."

WINNIE WARD is still with Downey Brand in Sacramento and is happy to report that her husband is now a tanker pilot with the US Forest Service.

DEBORAH CUSSEN says that she still is doing transactional real estate and further reports "The only really interesting thing I can report is that I went a lot of interesting places last year: Belize (with my 10-year old daughter), Paris, Marrakech, Mallorca and Bali."

BRIDGET STEWART writes "Janie and I took advantage of the short window of opportunity to get married after 29 years together. (Repeal Prop 8!) Our boys are 5 and 7 now and lots of fun. I'm still a DDA in Napa and just returned to work full-time after five wonderful years working three days per week."

JULIEANNA ANASTASSATOS writes that "In October of 2006, we moved to Collierville, TN, a suburb of Memphis, where Chris is based as a pilot for FedEx. Our intent was to be here temporarily until he was based in LA, then we'd move back to Reno for an easier commute for him. Well, we actually liked it here and loved living at his base, so we bought a house and settled in. In the Fall of 2008, I decided to apply to the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners for a license by comity and thankfully, they agreed, and I didn't have to take another bar! Still at home as the primary caregiver of our 4 kids (now aged 5, 8, 11, and 14), I didn't want a full-time job. I started getting my feet wet in Memphis with some pro bono representation through Legal Services. Very gratifying. Working strictly from home, on a flexible schedule that allows me to attend school functions for the kids and volunteer in the classrooms. About a month ago, I was hired as in-house counsel for a non-profit advocacy group that advocates on behalf of patients all over the U.S. with a very rare disease called Hereditary Angioedema. (Several years ago, I represented a friend and her son, who has the disease, in a Federal lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company.) Mostly, I'm helping the patients get insurance coverage for the brand new treatment for their disease, that was just approved by the FDA last Fall. It's very gratifying work, and again, part-time and from home. Other than work and family, I volunteer at our church, leading worship. Chris and I also find time to "jam" with other friends, playing/singing old songs, just for fun. And, I'm training for a mini-triathlon in August (in Seattle) with some college friends who convinced me this was a good idea! On a more somber note, I was very saddened to learn of Professor Ray Parnas' passing in January of this year. He had been a mentor and friend since law school. I'd most recently spoken with him in the Fall; we probably talked about every 6 months to catch up. He was a wonderful teacher and mentor and will be greatly missed." I wish you all well Class of '93 and hope that we hear from all of you next year!

Class of '93 thank you very much for the amazing response. I am honored to be a colleague and friend of yours. You are truly a talented and giving group of people. With that said, let's get to the updates. RICHARD MIDDLEBROOK and his wife, Robin, welcomed daughter Mason Genevieve Middlebrook, born August 2, 2006. Rich was elected International President for Active 20-30 International, an International charity raising money for the needs of children worldwide and has traveled to South Africa, Dominican Republic, Columbia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Mexico, Ireland, Great Britain, Panama, and Costa Rica in the last 6 months. He runs his own law office as well… MARCIA KWASMAN UNELL writes that she, husband Joe and their two daughters (ages 8 and 5) are all doing wonderfully. They went to Maui for week (without kids—I'm envious) to celebrate their 10 year wedding anniversary. They also traveled to Tucson in August for her 20 year high school reunion. Marcia has been at the Arizona legislature drafting legislation for 7 years now. She keeps in touch with with CAROLYN BROESAMLE VONDRISKA and ALISON STEWART COCOTIS. Marcia reports that Alison is teaching at Hastings and is expecting her third child this fall and Carolyn had her third child recently. Speaking of teaching, Prof. LESLIE KNIGHT is "currently living in my barn while building a house in upstate New York (think chilly nights and no running water here...) When I'm not freezing my you know what off or milking the cow, I am teaching legal writing to LLM students at Cornell University and working on a novel." WINNIE WARD reports that she is at Downey Brand LLP as counsel, and is up for partner this year. (She will know in early November.) JOHN CONGER writes that he is "happy to report that I have the same wife, job, dog, and home. Consequently, I look forward to learning about the new events in our other classmates' lives." LARA GILMAN states that their big new is they have a new baby, Theo, who was born last September and further reports that life in their house is hectic with two boys but wonderful. Lara is still at Farella Braun + Martel doing interesting work in the Family Wealth area. JULIEANNA ANNASTASSATOS is a very busy raising four children (Alex, 11, Sam, 8, Stefan, 5 and Melina, 3). She is also preparing for a move to Memphis in October. If that isn't enough, she also "wrote a book this year entitled Davis v. Goliath: Testimony of a God-Believing Lawyer about my handling of this pretty remarkable case for some friends of mine (named the Davises) where we sued a multi-national, multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical company. It was a pretty amazing experience, and I decided to write the story. Not sure what I'm doing with it yet -- it's still in the editing process." She promises to keep us posted about the book.

SHERYL (FREEMAN) SCHAFFNER writes that she is moving this fall to become the new City Attorney for the City of Eureka. She is looking forward to expanding her legal skill set and challenges in this new position, and excited about the prospects of moving to Humboldt County. Sheryl spent the last seven years as counsel on water quality matters for the State Water Resources Control Board. She also served as City Councilwoman for the City of Davis (1998-2002). On the personal front: she "opines that second marriages and fully fledged adult children are very good things!" DON SERAFANO reports that he and his wife, Nancy, "just celebrated our 2nd anniversary. I recently joined the New York based law firm of Eltman, Eltman & Cooper PC. I am learning more about the business side of law as I manage the California office. JARED MOSES sent the following update "I'm still at the LA DA's office. It was 12 years last month. I spent over five years in the Hardcore Gang Division prosecuting gang murders. I am currently assigned to the training division where I teach a variety of topics to young DDAs. Ita and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary in August. Our twin boys, Evan and Daniel, will turn 8 in November. I lecture frequently for a number of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors groups, including the California District Attorneys Association and the National District Attorneys Association. I turned 45 in July with my hair, my waistline and my teeth still intact." BETH CAMPBELL writes "I am still doing criminal appeals, although these days I am more of an administrator than an advocate. Nonetheless, I had a busy if not exactly stellar year. Three of my four pending California Supreme Court cases were set for argument within a two-month period, including two unrelated Fourth Amendment cases that were set on consecutive days. Briefing and arguing those cases was a great experience; the first case (People v. Brendlin) was used by the moot court program at Boalt, and the second (People v. Wells) had a televised argument and was the subject of moot court projects by a couple of Southern California law schools. Unfortunately, a few months later I got to experience losing both cases in 4-3 decisions in a single week. Fortunately I got a partial victory in my third case, so I only have two cert petitions to file before the end of the year." DAVID ARIETTA tells me that he and his wife, Theresa are expecting their second child - Sophia Rose Arietta at the end of October. They also have daughter, Bella, who is just about to turn 3. JOHN FAUCHER reports that his family had a great visit with JOHN BAUM and his family over the summer. He also states that "life at IRS is very good. I had a recent published case, Lee v. Commissioner, T.C. Memo. 2006-193; very satisfying to win, as it involved an IRS agent trying to scam the government on a truly obscure point. Otherwise no big changes: same job, same house, same wife, same kids." DEBORAH CUSSEN tells us that she did buy a new house this year (moved over to Noe Valley), and she loves the neighborhood. She stays in touch with MARCIA KWASMAN UNELL and CAROLYN (BROESAMLE) VONDRISKA and sees ALISON (STEWART) COCOTIS from time to time. She also states that her "Big excitement of the summer was my usual trip to Paris (completely by myself!) and then a trip with my girls (now 7 and 3) to Kona. Still doing real estate work at Gibson Dunn." SCOTT STANTON shares the following "I'm now a partner at Morrison & Foerster in San Diego, where I've been since leaving my prior firm in July '04. The practice is going great, the family is healthy. Life is good." PERRY GOLDSCHEIN and his wife Felice proudly announce the birth of their daughter, Eva, earlier this year and they have been enjoying her immensely. Perry also states that his company, SRB Marketing, now in its 4th year, has been continuing to grow, taking on new clients, new employees, and he loves being a social entrepreneur. Perry will be hiking with DAVID ARIETTA on Mt. Tamalpais in Marin in November while out in SF on business. ERIK REVAI writes that he is living in San Rafael, CA with his wife, Kim, and their two boys 3 yrs and 10 months. He is working for the federal reserve bank of San Francisco.

GAIL BLANCHARD-SAIGER sent the following, "After exactly one year as in-house labor and employment counsel, I moved to 2 new jobs. I am working part-time at the California Hospital Association as the VP of Labor and Employment, tracking legislation and regulatory issues on behalf of hospitals and providing other member services on that topic (but no legal advice) and I am back at Foley and Lardner part-time providing advice and counseling to a wide variety of employers on labor and employment issues, although my specialty is wage and hour law. No changes on the home front. Still married to John. Ben is 11 and Emily is 8." JUDY CITKO is the Executive Director of the California Coalition for Compassionate Care. She also notes that "At this time of year, my life revolves around soccer and taekwondo. Kyle is 10 and Anton is 8. Need I say more?" JOHN GEYER writes "I'm still with my first employer out of law school – been with Laughlin, Falbo, Levy and Moresi in Sacramento since 1993 where I am now a partner. My wife Angela and I have lived in Dixon since 1998. We were married in Maui back in 1995. We visit Davis frequently — our two boys (Jacob, 4, and Nikko, 2) love Baskin Robbins on E Street. For those of you who haven’t been back to Davis since 1993, the changes are tremendous. Still a great town – the population is now approaching 70,000 (wasn't it around 30,000 when we started school in 1990?) I remain on a quest to see the Dodgers play in every stadium. Took my dad to London and France last year for a wonderful vacation — visited the beaches of Normandy where my grandfather died during the D-day invasion. Saw a marker for my dad’s dad at the American Cemetery. A very moving experience." NICK MORGAN shares that "In June 2005, I left the SEC as senior trial counsel after having been there for seven years. Since that time, I have been Of Counsel at DLA Piper. I am doing almost entirely SEC defense work on behalf of public companies and their officers and directors, hedge funds, and securities brokers. Genevieve (Davis PhD '96) still heads up the English Department at a private school in Brentwood, where both of our daughters, Anya and Tess, now attend in the 9th and 7th grades. I met up with JEREMY MILLSTONE and his family a while back as they traveled down to LA for a trip to Disneyland. He's doing great at his firm, Millstone, Peterson & Watts in Sacramento." DAN MULLER writes "my wife Michelle and I had our second daughter, Alyssa Laine, on May 22nd, and we're very happy now to have two girls. I am still doing the same thing work-wise, heading up a growing land use department for a small/medium sized firm, Morgan Miller Blair, in Walnut Creek. Other than practicing law, I'm getting away to fly fish here and there, and enjoying family life with our girls. ELISE SHIBLES has been traveling with her job for the past 3.5 years and now lives in D.C. She works with US Customs and Border Protection in textile trade policy and travels with an interagency team to negotiate trade agreements between the US and other countries. LINDA EMERSON is doing just great. She sent along the following: "My husband and I both retired from our stressful jobs nearly two years ago and moved to Bishop in the Eastern Sierra. In addition to resuming our former lives as climbing/mountaineering bums, we've been doing our best to make up for all the traveling we missed during our working lives. I'm finally learning to speak Spanish and will soon be spending a month in Chiapas and Oaxaca for a Spanish immersion program. I'm still on the board of directors for Friends of the Inyo, a local wilderness advocacy group and still enjoying long-distance trail running." TIYEN LIN is having the time of his life and writes "Calvin and Aaron are now ages 7 and 5. We [wife Sabrina] have reached the stage in family life where activities occupy many blocks in our calendar: birthday parties, school functions, Chinese school, church programs, etc. However, these are all precious moments as we learn and grow together. I am one of two Deputy District Attorneys who prosecute elder/dependent adult financial abuse cases in Santa Clara County. I have recently started picking up the piano again and have been playing on one of the worship teams in our church. This past summer I spent 3 weeks in China teaching rural English teachers about American culture. It was hard work, but I witnessed some of the tremendous social, economic, and political transformations that are taking place in that country. I was also reminded that there really is no place like home." EVA (KIM) WONG reports that she and husband, Chris, have 3 girls, one 7 and 2-1/2 year old twins. She works part-time at Deutsche Bank doing trustee work on securitization transactions. She states "as you can imagine with 3 kids and working, I keep pretty busy -- I'm chronically tired and am increasingly forgetful." DAN SHARF and JENNY WAYLAND have three children: Violet who is 2 1/2 , Simon (7) and Leo (5). Dan writes "I have moved from Disney to the Jim Henson Company, where I'm now head of business and legal affairs for the company, and Jenny is working at the Alternate Public Defender’s office in Inglewood. It's beginning to be a pretty kid-oriented lifestyle, with schools and school fundraisers, and soccer, and basketball, and a seemingly never-ending stream of birthday parties, but we're not complaining. We are about to go on a work/fun trip to the south of France, which is the first kid-free trip for us in a long while." O.K, for all of you parents that are reading this, let’s be honest. The part of Dan’s update that we all focused on was the fact that they are actually going on a great trip—alone. That says a lot for those of us that still get to go to "restaurants" dictated by our children who are merely looking for the toy in the kid's meal. VINCE FABRIZIO says that "I'm still at the Riverside DA's office and having fun. I just recently ran into ALEC ROSE in court and JOHN GARCIA in line to be a juror. My wife Kim and I are the proud parents of 2 little ones and are just enjoying watching them grow." ALESHIA (POOLE) WHITE reports "My husband and I have lived in New Jersey since 2002 after living in Chicago for two years where I worked at Seyfarth Shaw practicing commercial litigation. (Yes, I had to take another bar! Now I'm licensed in three states including New York!) We bought a new home in 2004 and have two beautiful children, ages 3 and 5." ANDY LAUDERDALE says "he lives in Aptos, is divorced with two kids, and is more or less content with his job as a trial lawyer for one of the behemoths of the insurance industry. He says he shook hands with John Garcia at the San Mateo courthouse recently, and some years ago burned controlled substances with another King Hall classmate, but has seen little of his law school classmates since. He reports he still has a crush on Ann Breuner." (Quote printed verbatim per Andy's request and I have the email to prove it). As for the DAVID McCRAY family…we have had some glorious changes since the last update. We finalized the adoption of our two daughters, Jenny 6 and Kristy, 5 who join big brothers Tyler, 12 and Kyle, 10. Yes, we now have four kids (and a car that is always going to some event) but Dolores and I think we must be doing something right as we celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary in November and still had the desire to expand our family…or we’re just nuts. I retired from the Air Force in November 2005 and now work as a Deputy Counsel for the California Department of Transportation (aka CalTrans) in Sacramento. I handle environmental issues, some real property and Native American issues. We are a State agency that actually litigates our own cases so things are interesting. Our family also bought a brand new house so we are still moving in and enjoying making it our home. Thanks again for sharing your lives with your colleagues. I really enjoy putting this update together for our class and hope that you will continue to stay in touch. I can always be reached at ddmccray@earthlink.net
