RICK TARGOW continues with his death penalty appellate practice from his base in Sebastopol, and is proud to report his daughter's recent graduation from Bard College and her move to New York City, where she is working as Assistant Director of Bard's Program on Globalization and International Affairs.
BOB MORRISON has checked in from Stockton, where his practice evolved from water and public agency law to corporate transactional work. Three years ago he left his firm to become the general counsel of a publicly held company. Bob also served on the UC Board of Regents from 2000 to 2002. He and his wife have two grown children, both graduates of UC Davis.
I can also report that, unlike the rest of us who danced out the door of King Hall 35 years ago, DANIEL SIMMONS is still there. A tenured member of the King Hall faculty since 1976, Dan has also served a term on the UC Board of Regents and is currently chair of the UC Davis Academic Senate. The author of several texts and numerous articles on federal taxation, Dan has also spoken on the subject extensively and served as professor in residence with the IRS Office of General Counsel. He continues to be an active ski racer in the Far West Masters, and also races his 18 foot sailboat.
DOUG KNOWLES continues his legal practice in Vancouver, British Columbia, with the firm of Fraser, Milner and Casgrain. He continues to be a avid skier, something he first discovered during his years at King Hall with the help of classmate John Short. He and his wife Denise have four children, ranging in age from 27 to 14.
LINDA (ORWITZ) PALLEY sends her best to all from Nevada City, California, where she is living with her husband Dave Palley, also an attorney. Linda is currently retired form her estate planning practice, and making time for horseback riding and other out of door activities. Linda and Dave have a son 25 years-old, who graduated from Dartmouth 2003 and is currently attending grad school at University of Chicago; and a 20 year-old daughter, attending Occidental College.
JUDGE RONALD TAYLOR, although technically retired, continues to handle regular felony jury trials by assignment on the Superior Court bench in Corona, California. Between assignments he and his wife try to spend as much time as possible at their home in Astoria, Oregon.
RICH BROWN checked in to report that, no doubt like a number of others in the Class of 71, he is planning his retirement for April of next year.
GARY SOLIS has left his teaching post at the West Point Military Academy, and returned to teaching at Georgetown Law. He is also currently serving as a resident scholar at the Library of Congress, and is awaiting the publication of his next book by Cambridge University Press in the not too distant future.
Finally, RON CLAUSEN has pointed out that, this being the 35th Anniversary of our graduation, some sort of get together celebration might be in order. For those with suggestions who did not receive Ron's email directly, he can be reached at [email protected] . In a timely response, Max Steinheimer offered his Lodi ranch as the site for our 35th Reunion. The date (which will be either past or pending, depending when this issue see print) is (was) November 11, 2006, starting at 11:00 a.m. All thanks to Max for his generous offer. Max's ranch is about an hour from Sacramento airport, and 90 minutes from San Francisco.
And finally...your Class Agent is very aware that his email list is far from being either complete or accurate, so any corrections, modifications or additions you can offer for future contacts will be very welcome. Thanks. JOHN DAVIDSON.
