The first day of 1L classes is always the best. First-year law students still possess the admirable qualities of fear and optimism. In my first Legal Research and Writing class in the fall of 2008, per my custom, I had my class introduce themselves. A bright and enthusiastic young man with a buzz cut happily announced that he was going to practice “sports law.”
Never one to discourage enthusiasm, I asked, “Where do you want to work?”
“I want to work for a major sports franchise” he responded.
I recall thinking to myself, “Wow. Oh, to dream.”
During the next three years, I got to know this young man quite well. He impressed me not only because of his intelligence and ambition, but significantly he possessed the proverbial “gift of gab.” I use him as a classic example of King Hall being the vehicle to follow your dreams. He called me the other day and wanted to know if I wanted to attend an NFL football game. He has that ability to extend such invitations now that he, Rahul “Brown” Chandhok ’11, is the Manager of Government Affairs with the San Francisco Forty Niners.
