UC Davis Moot Court Teams Win Two National Competitions

UC Davis School of Law Moot Court Team members Lindsey Adams '08, Shawn Bananzadeh '08, and Erin Haney '08 won the Fourth Annual Williams Institute Moot Court Competition on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Law, held February 22, 2008, at UCLA. The UC Davis team also was honored for the best oral argument in the competition. While preparing for the competition, the team was assisted by Professors Vikram Amar, Alan Brownstein, Courtney Joslin, and Carlton Larson, alum Andrea Fazel '06, and Moot Court Board Members Kate Doty '08 and Jeff Osofsky '08.  Fourth Annual Williams Institute Moot Court Competition

The UC Davis School of Law team of Julie Schwartz '08 and Julia Wiley '08 won the the National Immigration Law Moot Court Competition, held February 22-24, 2008, at New York University School of Law. The UC Davis team was undefeated in the competition! In the finals, the UC Davis team argued before the Judge John Walker (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit), Judge Emilio Garza (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit), and Judge George P. Kazen (Federal District Judge, Southern District of Texas). Julie Schwartz also won the second-runner up for Best Oralist. Professors Bill Ong Hing and Professor Jennifer Chacón helped the team prepare.  The competition is open to schools from all over the country.
