Sara Granda '09 Profiled in Sacramento Bee

Sara Granda '09 was profiled in an article entitled "Sara Granda - smart, spirited, and disabled - gets her UCD law degree," published in the Sacramento Bee May 15.  The article details the many obstacles overcome by Granda, who lost the use of her arms and legs following a 1997 automobile accident, yet earned her law degree from King Hall and graduated with the Class of 2009 on May 16.

In addition to the intellectual challenge of attending law school, Granda faced considerable physical obstacles in her everyday life and in attending classes, requiring an assistant to help with things such as bathing, eating, taking notes, and traveling to appointments.  Yet she managed not only to pass her courses, but also to work, travel, and date "just like anyone else," Granda states in the article. "Only it was about three times harder for me."

"I have never met anyone like Sara in my life," said Dean Kevin R. Johnson. "It's not within her to quit on anything."
