Sacramento County Honors King Hall Student Volunteers

King Hall students were among the individuals and groups honored by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors as "Outstanding Volunteers of 2009" at the April 6 board meeting.

Alice Cheng '10, Jon Clemons '10, Carlos Gallardo '10, Malavika Kumar '10, Alison Morgan '10, Mauro Quintero '10, Alan Serrano '10, and Elspeth Theis '10 were honored for their work as 2009 summer legal interns with the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.  The students agreed to work as unpaid volunteers after the county was forced to withdraw their offers of paid internships due to budget constraints.  The students provided 5,072 hours of assistance preparing misdemeanor cases, assisting deputy district attorneys in arraignment and pre-trial negotiation proceedings, supporting Juvenile Hall staff, conducting legal research, preparing written motions, and contacting victims.

Roger Dickinson, Chair of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, said the contribution of volunteers to Sacramento County is immeasurable. "Their service is critical to enhancing limited county resources and helping us meet increased demands in our community, especially during this difficult economic time."
