Professor Frank presents on developments in environmental law

In a Nov. 30 Zoom presentation to environmental/natural resource law attorneys, Professor of Environmental Practice Rick Frank covered recent environmental law developments and trends in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals and the California Supreme Court.

He also remarked on how recent changes to the membership of the U.S. and California Supreme courts are likely to affect environmental jurisprudence; reviewed climate change litigation trends in the U.S.; and discussed how the change in presidential administrations is likely to affect numerous, pending lawsuits in which state and local officials and environmental organizations have challenged environmental policy rollbacks by the Trump administration.

The 160 attorneys in attendance represented the California Environmental Protection Agency, Natural Resources Agency and Department of Justice. Professor Frank said he was heartened by the number of former King Hall students attending his presentation who are pursuing environmental law careers in California state government.

Richard M. Frank ’74 is a leader in the field of environmental law, Professor of Environmental Practice and the founding director of the California Environmental Law and Policy Center at UC Davis School of Law.
