President Napolitano highlights UC Immigrant Legal Services Center

Last week, just after the Supreme Court heard oral arguments on DACA, UC President Janet Napolitano issued a statement on behalf of the university that pledged continued support for undocumented members of the UC community.

Although the justices likely will not render a decision before June, “I want to emphasize that the University of California will remain a safe and welcoming environment,” Napolitano wrote.

The letter also highlighted resources for undocumented students, including the UC Immigrant Legal Services Center, which is housed at UC Davis School of Law and offers free immigration-related legal services to undocumented and immigrant students across most of the UC system.

Napolitano was in D.C. last week for oral arguments, along with other plaintiffs in DACA cases. The court is weighing Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of the University of California, which it consolidated with two other DACA-related cases, Trump v. NAACP and McAleenan v. Vidal.

As Homeland Security secretary under President Barack Obama, Napolitano signed the memorandum that put DACA into place.
