National Coming Out Week
A series of events took place for National Coming Out Week, October 9-13, 2006, by the Lambda Law Students Association. On Monday, students gathered to discus legal issues touching the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, including: marriage & family law; discrimination in housing, the workplace, and health care; military service; prison conditions; and hate crimes. Speakers during a series of noontime events included West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon, who spoke on his career and the political climate in Northern California for LGBT politicians; activist Jamison Green, an internationally respected advocate for legal protection, medical access, safety, and civil rights of transgendered people; and Andrea Fazel '05, Program Director at Ally Action, a Bay Area organization committed to creating safe schools for LGBT students. The week of activities concluded with a panel of law practitioners who spoke about their experiences as LGBT attorneys in various areas of law.
The Lambda Law Students Association is composed of LGBT students and allied students, faculty, and staff at the UC Davis School of Law. Lambda is committed to raising awareness of LGBT legal issues on campus and in the community. The group also provides a supportive social space for LGBT students at King Hall.
