Law Students Compete at Sexual Orientation Law Moot Court Competition
Jeff Osofsky '08 and Sulaiman Tokhi '08 represented the Davis School of Law in the Third National Sexual Orientation Law Moot Court Competition. The competition takes place over the course of two weekends, and during the first weekend, held February 10, 2007, Osofsky won the Best Oral Advocate award, tying with a George Washington University law school student. This year's topic was the equal protection and due process rights of homosexual couples to adopt children.
The Sexual Orientation Law Moot Court Competition is sponsored by the Williams Institute at UCLA. It is the only national competition dedicated exclusively to the area of sexual orientation law. Competitors write an appellate level brief on the current topic and argue the case before a panel of judges. The competition is designed to promote and recognize the finest oral and written advocacy on a significant problem in sexual orientation law.
The final round takes place on February 23, 2007, during the Williams Institute’s 6th Annual Update on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy.
