Jewish Culture Week
A week of noontime events devoted to addressing issues related to the Jewish community begins at the UC Davis School of Law on February 26, 2007. The Jewish Law Students Association (JLSA), which serves to integrate social, religious, and political aspects of Jewish culture in providing a variety of programs at the Law School, is hosting all events.
The week begins on Monday at noon in the Wilkins Moot Courtroom with a talk by Ismail Khaldi, the deputy consul general of Israel in San Francisco. Khaldi began his term at the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco in December 2006. Prior to his appointment, he worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in both the North American Division and the Arabic Media Department (where he served as the Spokesperson to Arabic media on the issue of Disengagement from Gaza). Before then, Khaldi served in the Defense Ministry, the Israeli Police, and the Israeli Defense Forces. Khaldi holds a masters's degree in International Relations from Tel Aviv University and a bachelors degree in Political Science from the University of Haifa. Khaldi was born and raised in the Bedouin village of Khawalid in the Western Galilee of Israel.
On Tuesday, Rabbi Taff, the dynamic Rabbi from Mosaic Law congregation, will address students at noon in Room 2011.
On Wednesday, there will be a tasting of Jewish Foods at noon in Room 2011. If you're curious about what "Kosher" means or just want to taste some delicious Jewish foods, join JLSA for an adventure for the senses.
On Thursday, a presentation by Jews Indigenous to the Middle East & North Africa (JIMENA) will be held at noon in Room 2011. Daniel Khazoom will speak. The event is cosponsored by Hillel at Davis and Aggies for Israel.
JLSA is comprised of law students committed to sharing the cultural aspects of Judaism and increasing awareness of issues facing Jews today. For further information on Jewish Culture Week events contact Eddie Cohen '08.
