International Child Abduction Presentation
The International Law Society and the Advocates for the Rights of Children are hosting a presentation on international child abduction on February 21, 2007, at noon in the Wilkins Moot Courtroom. Guest speaker Tony Tanke will talk about the laws and uniform statutes that govern international child abductions, as well as the current problems in the system. Tanke is a certified appellate specialist who received his LL.M. from Cambridge International. He has done extensive pro bono work in family law. Lunch will be provided.
Advocates for the Rights of Children seeks to create a network of law students with similar interests in children's issues and the law; to engage in community service activities benefiting disadvantaged children; to participate in legislative and policy advocacy activities to improve the area of children's law; and to educate the law school community and the public about the problems and legal issues affecting children.
The International Law Society is a member of the Association of Student International Law Societies. Among other activities, the Society sponsors luncheons, dinners, and informal gatherings with guest speakers in international fields related to law; collects information on career opportunities in international law; proposes curriculum changes; and maintains contact with international organizations to share programs and information. The Society also sponsors the Jessup International Law Moot Court team and the UC Davis Journal of International Law & Policy.
