Ghori '12, Ellinghouse '13 Compete in Transactional Lawyering Meet
On March 31-April 1, 2011, the students from UC Davis School of Law competed in the Second Annual Transactional Lawyering Meet in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The competition took place at the Earle Mack School of Law at Drexel University and featured teams representing 30 law schools from across the country. The UC Davis team came prepared and fared well in the competition, advancing to the semi-finals.
Fauzia Ghori '12 and Mark Ellinghouse '13 worked together in the competition. Additionally, Kristin Charbonnier '13 assisted the team in their preparation. The team drafted a term sheet summarizing the terms of an investment by an accomplished business executive and investor in a successful local Italian restaurant for the purpose of developing a national chain. After submitting their term sheet, the team reviewed and marked-up two term sheets drafted by teams representing the opposite party. At the competition, the team participated in three rounds of negotiation, the last of which was the semi-final round of the tournament. The negotiations were judged by skilled practitioners from throughout the Philadelphia area. The team scored strongly and received excellent feedback from competition judges, and advanced to the semi-final round. King Hall scored highly in the final rankings, placing third.
