Annual Irving L. Neumiller Memorial Moot Court Competition
The 38th Annual Irving L. Neumiller Memorial Moot Court Competition will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the UC Davis School of Law Wilkins Moot Courtroom. The annual Neumiller Competition is the final round of the year-long Intra-School Moot Court competition at UC Davis School of Law. Top students from the appellate advocacy course are selected to compete in front of a panel of distinguished judges--The Honorable Walter L. Carpineti Justice, Alaska Supreme Court; The Honorable J. Clifford Wallace, Senior Circuit Judge, Chief Judge Emeritus, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit; The Honorable M. Kathleen Butz, Associate Justice, California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District; and The Honorable Tani Cantil Sakauye Associate Justice, California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District.
This year, student advocates will address important questions of Criminal Procedure before a mock U.S. Supreme Court.
The event is named in memory of Irving Neumiller, a Stockton native and son of Charles Neumiller, who was a respected partner with the law firm currently known as Neumiller & Beardslee PC.
Neumiller joined the firm in 1923 upon graduation from Boalt Law School. He became a partner in 1925 and founded the firm’s litigation department. Also active in Republican state politics, he was appointed to the San Francisco World Trade Center Authority. Known as an outstanding trial lawyer, the firm recognized him after his death by establishing the Irving L. Neumiller trophy for the winner of the UC Davis School of Law Moot Court Competition.
Neumiller takes place during the UC Davis Picnic Day celebration and is open to the public. All students, faculty, friends, and family are encouraged to attend to watch these amazing advocates in action!
