UC Davis Teams Advance to Moot Court Finals

Two UC Davis Teams have been selected to compete in the finals of the 7th Annual Williams Institute Moot Court Competition on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Law, beating out 22 other teams from law schools across the nation.  The team of Camille Papini-Chapla '11 and Remy Goldsmith '11 and the team of Scott Judson '12 and James Beck '12 will face off against each other in the finals at UCLA in April.

The King Hall teams prevailed in the preliminary and semi-final rounds held at UCLA last weekend, competing in four rounds of oral arguments and appearing before professors of law, superior court judges from throughout Southern California, and practitioners.  Papini-Chapla was named as the best oral advocate of the competition. 

The two teams will return to UCLA on April 8, 2011 to compete in the competition's final round as part of the Williams Institute 10th Anniversary Celebration.  The teams will appear in front of the Honorable Justice Jack Jacobs of the Delaware Supreme Court, the Honorable Associate Justice Rives Kistler of the Oregon Supreme Court, and the Honorable Chief Judge Alex Kozinski of the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The competitors would like to thank Professors Courtney Joslin, Angelo DeSantis, Keith Aoki, Rachana Shah, and Carlton Larson, Yolo County Superior Court Judges Janet Gaard and Steven Basha, Judge Donna Marie Petre, King Hall alumni and team coaches Sarah Whitney Asplin '08 and Kim Lucia '09, the UC Davis School of Law Moot Court Board, student volunteers and Student Coach James Tiehm '11 for their support and time.
