UC Davis Law sees increase in bar pass rate

UC Davis School of Law’s recent graduates posted an 87 percent passage rate for the October 2020 California Bar Exam. This is the school's highest pass rate for first-time takers since 2009. The average rate of passage was 84 percent for the state’s ABA-approved law schools.

In the midst of a global pandemic that resulted in remote learning for the class of 2020 and the bar exam being postponed and then conducted online, King Hall graduates persevered.

"I am extremely proud of our recent graduates for staying focused and succeeding during some of the most trying times our nation has faced,” Dean Kevin R. Johnson said. “The stellar bar pass rate is a testament to our talented and resilient students, our outstanding faculty, and the support system we have in place for bar takers."

In addition to our teaching faculty, the law school’s expanded Academic Success Program helps graduates pass the bar. It provides bar preparation workshop courses for second- and third-year students, and a comprehensive post-graduation summer program with workshops, tutoring and mock essay grading.

More than 92 percent of UC Davis graduates pass the bar on their first or second attempt.
