UC Davis Law Review Publishes Symposium Honoring Dean Johnson's Impact

The UC Davis Law Review's recently released issue has published the proceedings of the fall law review symposium, "Celebrating Dean Kevin R. Johnson: Honoring a Legacy of Transformative Scholarship and Leadership." The Oct. 31 symposium celebrated Johnson’s profound impact on King Hall, legal education, the academy and the study of immigration law.
 
As the nation's most-cited immigration law scholar, Johnson's research is comprehensive and groundbreaking. Symposium panels covered topics related to Johnson's scholarship and expertise including: intersections of immigration law and race; advancing racial justice through civil procedure; transforming the legal academy; and leadership and mentorship at American law schools.
 
Professors Afra Afsharipour, Raquel Aldana, and Gabriel "Jack" Chin participated in the symposium. And several former UC Davis Law faculty members or visiting scholars also participated, including Stanford Law School Professor Jennifer Chacón, Rutgers Law School Professor Rose Cuison-Villazor, Southwestern Law School Professor Meera Deo, University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School Professor Jasmine Harris, Boston University School of Law Dean Angela Onwuachi-Willig and Georgetown University Law Center Professor Madhavi Sunder.

Kevin R. Johnson is a distinguished professor of law, Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law. Johnson is the director of the Aoki Center for Critical Race and Nation Studies and also has an appointment as professor of Chicana/o studies at UC Davis. He served as dean of UC Davis Law from 2008 to 2024. Johnson is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law and civil rights.
