Student Negotiations Team Places Third in ABA Negotiation Competition
The King Hall Negotiations Team placed three teams in the top 10 at the American Bar Association Regional Negotiations Competition held at Santa Clara University School of Law on November 5-6.
Students competed, in teams of two, in two rounds of preliminary negotiations. In each round, students negotiated a different legal problem and were evaluated by panels of four or five competition judges. This year's topic, provided by the American Bar Association, was real estate law. The negotiations involved the sale of a luxury home, pre-litigation settlement of nuisance claims, and the settlement of a significant personal injury suffered on the property. After the two rounds, the top four teams were announced and they competed in the final round the next day.
The team of Kyle Junginger '14 and Sean Newland '14 placed third overall and had the top score coming into the final round. Alexander Rich '13 and Shannon Thompson '13 nearly qualified for the final round, placing seventh overall. Jesse Suarez '12 and Uzair Saleem '13 placed 10th out of total of 28 competing teams.
