Professor Mullaney Writes About Water Justice Clinic in California Legal History Journal
Professor and Aoki Water Justice Clinic Director Robert Mullaney wrote an article about the clinic for California Legal History, the journal of the California Supreme Court Historical Society. The article is part of the special section “Legal History in the Making: Innovative Experiential Learning Programs in California Law Schools.”
The article outlines California’s legislative and administrative response to the moral imperative of a human right to water, recounts the foundation of the Aoki Water Justice Clinic, and offers several case studies as well as reflections by participating students, including Chiara Veronesi ’23, Matthew Navarrette ’22 and Christian Smit ’22.
Rob Mullaney directs the Aoki Water Justice Clinic. Before joining the Davis faculty in July 2020, he worked for a year at Golden Gate University School of Law’s Environmental Law and Justice Clinic, representing disadvantaged communities in environmental cases. He also worked for 28 years for the United States enforcing the nation’s environmental statutes, most recently as Senior Counsel at the Environmental Enforcement Section of the U.S. Department of Justice. He served as a law clerk for Justice (and later UC Davis Law Professor) Cruz Reynoso of the California Supreme Court, and Justice Daniel Moore of the Alaska Supreme Court.
