Professor Larson Comments on Obama's Challenges in UC Panel Discussion
Professor Carlton Larson served on a panel of UC Davis experts convened in the Arts and Recreation Center on January 13 to discuss the challenges facing President Barack Obama. Speaking to an audience of about 150, Professor Larson said that he expected to see the new president "step back" from the aggressive approach to executive power taken by his predecessor, curtail wiretapping and the use of torture in the interrogation of terrorism suspects, and begin the challenging process of closing the detention camp at Guantánamo Bay.
Joining Professor Larson in the discussion were Economics Professor Alan Taylor, Political Science Professor Miroslav Nincic, Sociology Professor Kimberlee Shauman, and the moderator, Political Science Professor Zeev Maoz. The discussion drew coverage from the Davis Enterprise, which misattributed Professor Larson as "Lawson" but included several of his comments. The panel was videotaped and has been posted to the UC Davis Institute of Governmental Affairs website.
Carlton Larson is a professor with the UC Davis School of Law whose research interests focus on constitutional law and legal history, with a strong emphasis on the 18th century.
