Michael N. Mills '97, Shannon Morrissey '15 Co-author Article on Fracking for Daily Journal

Michael N. Mills '97 and Shannon Morrissey '15 have co-authored an article for the Daily Journal summarizing the latest developments in the legal controversy over hydraulic fracturing technology in California.

The article, "Another Front in the Legal War against Fracking," appears in the March 6 San Francisco edition of the Daily Journal and focuses on a federal lawsuit filed by the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) alleging that federal agencies issued permits for drilling off the coast of California without adequate environmental review. In February, the CBD sued the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, and the Department of the Interior, alleging that the federal agencies issued permits for drilling off the coast of California without adequate environmental review. This lawsuit is just the most recent in a long stream of suits by the CBD in is campaign against fracking. The CBD has previously urged the federal government to ban the practice, and the effort may have contributed to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requirement for offshore oil and gas operators in Southern California to disclose what chemicals are being discharged into the ocean from their operation.
