LRLSA Students, Immigration Clinic Hold Naturalization Workshop

The UC Davis La Raza Law Students Association and UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic, in collaboration with California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, provided naturalization assistance to 65 lawful permanent residents interested in applying for U.S. citizenship during a naturalization workshop on April 4, 2009 in Woodland as part of the César Chávez Day of Service.

Some applicants travelled four hours to meet with the King Hall students, who provided individual assistance in completing naturalization applications.  In addition, King Hall alumni Santiago Avila-Gomez '02, Erin Hernandez '08, and Clara Levers '03 provided final review of applications, along with American Immigration Lawyers Association Liaison Attorney Johnny Walker from the Law Offices of Schoenleber and Waltermire.

Professor Amagda Pérez, a faculty supervisor for the Immigration Clinic, said that special thanks were due to Jessica Zweng '09 and Amparo Cid '10 for coordinating the workshop.  "The law students did an impressive job of interviewing clients and completing the applications," said Pérez.  "The applications I reviewed were completed accurately and potential red flags were appropriately brought to my attention.   The applicants and attorneys all commented on how professional the students were and what a great job they all did."
