King Hall Students Awarded 12 SCBA Fellowships
King Hall students have been awarded 12 of the 19 available Sacramento County Bar Association (SCBA) 2009 Summer Fellowships. The fellowships, part of an SCBA program designed to give ethnic minority and economically disadvantaged students from the UC Davis School of Law and McGeorge School of Law the opportunity to gain experience working for local firms during the summer following their first year of law school, were awarded by an SCBA committee and announced last week.
The first-year King Hall students awarded summer fellowships are Jennifer Masoodi (who has been offered a fellowship with Cook Brown), Lael Abaya (Downey Brand), Marvin F. Pineda (Katchis Harris & Yempuku), Fatima S. Alloo (Klinedinst, P.C.) Navruz Avloni (Mastagni, Holstedt, Amick, Miller, Johnsen & Uhrhammer), Ashley Emerzian (McDonough, Holland & Allen), James J. Tiehm (Olson, Hagel & Fishburn), Baber Ali Khan (Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe), Esmeralda Z. Soria (Rediger, McHugh & Hubbert), Anurita S. Varma (Somach, Simmons & Dunn), Emilio Camacho (Stoel Rives), and Marcy Seo (Weintraub Genshlea Chediak).
The fellowships are highly competitive, with 50-80 students applying in most years. The students, who are randomly matched with host firms, receive salaried positions and work experience at the participating firms, and also attend a series of training programs sponsored by the SCBA.
