King Hall Competes in ABA Regional Client Counseling Competition

Alexandria Goff '12 and Jesse Suarez '12 represented UC Davis School of Law in the American Bar Association Regional Client Counseling Competition on February 12-13 at Chapman University School of Law in Los Angeles.   

Under the guidance of Professor Donna Shestowsky and alumnus Jeremiah Harvey '10, the team spent weeks in training, which included meeting with mock clients who presented the team with complicated scenarios. Goff and Suarez honed their ability to elicit detailed information, spot legal and personal issues embedded in the facts, respond with a preliminary legal analysis, and present the client with possible courses of action.  

Goff and Suarez competed against teams from other Ninth Circuit law schools on February 12.  After three preliminary rounds, the team qualified for the semi-final round, but tied with another team.  When ABA tie-breaking criteria did not produce a winner, coaches from both schools agreed to flip a coin to determine which team would advance, and the coin toss went against King Hall. The King Hall team ultimately tied for sixth place. 

Goff and Suarez expressed their thanks to the 12 Negotiations Team members who volunteered to act as clients, their coaches, and Professors Dennis Ventry and Rex Perschbacher for lending their expertise.
