Kelly Behre Publishes on Men's Rights Movement in New York Times
Kelly Behre, the new Director of the UC Davis School of Law Family Protection and Legal Assistance Clinic, has published an entry in "Room for Debate," a feature of the New York Times website. Behre's essay, one of a group of articles on the topic of "Father's Rights and Women's Equality," is critical of the "father's rights" movement.
"The utilization of equality and civil rights language does not change the underlying call for the reinstatement of patriarchy in the fathers' rights movement," writes Behre. "Harkening back to a time when men had near absolute control over children as property, activists advocate for male property rights that trump both the best interests of children and the safety of battered mothers."
Kelly Behre joined the King Hall faculty in July 2014 as Director of the Family Protection and Legal Assistance Clinic. She has more than 15 years of experience in working with victims of domestic and sexual violence, including service with the Domestic and Sexual Assault Clinic at the West Virginia University College of Law and the Domestic Violence Law Clinic at the University of Alabama School of Law.
