Kathleen A. Doty '08 Appointed as Inaugural CILC Fellow
Kathleen A. Doty '08 has been appointed as the inaugural Fellow of the California International Law Center at King Hall (CILC), Professor Diane Marie Amann, CILC's director, announced this week.
Currently serving as law clerk to the Honorable Alexa D.M. Fujise on the Hawai'i Intermediate Court of Appeals, Doty will return to King Hall in the fall of 2009. As the CILC Fellow she will foster the work of faculty, students, and alumni in international, comparative, and transnational law through the CILC speakers' series and conferences, curricular and career development, and partnerships with organizations such as the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights and the American Society of International Law. In addition, she will undertake a scholarly project to be published under the auspices of the center.
Professor Amann noted that Doty is eminently qualified for this position, commenting on Doty's excellence in international legal studies while a King Hall student. Doty served as both coach and advocate for the 2008 Jessup International Moot Court Team, which advanced to international rounds in Washington, D.C. As first runner-up in the 2008 National Lesbian and Gay Law Association Michael Greenberg Student Writing Competition in 2009, she presented her article, "From Fretté to E.B.: The European Court of Human Rights on Gay and Lesbian Adoption," (soon to be published in the Tulane Journal of Law & Sexuality) at Global Arc of Justice: Sexual Orientation Law Around the World, a conference convened by the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law and the International Lesbian and Gay Law Association. Currently she serves as a founding member of the Hawai'i Lesbian and Gay Legal Association, and comments on LGBT human right and global health policy at IntLawGrrls blog.
