Judy Janes, Kathy Lin Present on Skyriver at AALL Conference

Judy Janes, interim director of the UC Davis Mabie Law Library, and Kathy Lin, Head of Tech Services/Cataloguing, presented findings at the American Association of Law Libraries Conference in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 23.

Janes and Lin reported on a recent trial of the Skyriver Bibliographic Utility.  The Mabie Law Library is the first academic law library to adopt Skyriver, which has spurred interest from other law librarians across the country. Skyriver is a newly established full service bibliographic utility that supplies cataloging records to libraries.  It is a new company, associated with Innovative Interfaces, Inc., supplier of the Mabie Law Library's online catalog.  After testing the system, UC Davis librarians noted several favorable findings, including greater workflow efficiencies, cost savings, exceptional compatibility with the library's existing library system, and helpful customer service.  The report, which was shared with law librarians from throughout the nation, rates Skyriver very high in all categories.   Janes is scheduled to meet with interested law library directors later in the conference, as well, to discuss the Mabie Law Library's early adoption of Skyriver.

Membership in the American Association of Law Libraries is comprised of law librarians who are affiliated with a wide range of institutions across the country: law firms; law schools; corporate legal departments; courts; and local, state and federal government agencies.  The organization holds an annual meeting featuring educational programs, panels, discussion sessions, and committee meetings with national agendas.  Janes chairs the AALL Price Index for Legal Publications committee, which will meet in Philadelphia.
