International Alumni Update: Karima Tanfous, attorney at Law, admitted to the Tunisia Bar and New York State Bar, solo practitioner

What is your favorite thing about your current work?

I am a business lawyer providing legal support in the Middle East and Africa to international pharmaceutical companies. What I really appreciate about my current job is that I am covering a region in which I am interested as a human rights lawyer who is committed to promoting human rights and to the fight against terrorism and religious fundamentalism.

How does your UC Davis School of Law education make you a more effective professional?

The UC Davis LL.M. helped me in getting better professional opportunities and prepared me for the New York bar exam. I have recently been admitted to the New York Bar and this made me proud and happy. This will make me much more effective in my global practice.

What piece of advice would you give to this year's international law students?

There is one thing that I would like to say to this year's LL.M. students: One year in Davis changed my life. You must enjoy every second of your LL.M. program, every laugh, every smile, every moment shared with your LL.M. friends and the law school faculty. This year is precious and so are the friendships built during this year. Work hard and you will reach your goals and achieve more than you expected.

What is your favorite UC Davis memory?

When I think about my year in Davis, I think about many pleasant things: King Hall, my LL.M. family, Martin Luther King, criminal procedure and constitutional law classes, papers, international law, long conversations with Professor Bennoune and Professor Brownstein, birthdays and dinners with my LL.M. family...these things come to my mind and I start smiling and I feel happy and blessed. I was lucky to be part of it and I wish plenty of success to this year's students.
