Immigration Clinic Co-Director Receives Award
The Immigration Clinic co-director and supervising attorney Amagda Perez '91 was honored by the La Raza Lawyers Association with a Community Service Award in recognition of her outstanding advocacy and legal services on behalf of Latinos and immigrants in general. The award was presented at the Unity Bar Association of Sacramento Annual Unity Dinner on October 27. Perez gave special thanks to the UC Davis La Raza Law Student Association, the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic, and the CRLA Foundation who, through their collaborative efforts, have assisted more than 10,000 lawful permanent residents to apply for naturalization.
The Unity Bar is a unique organization composed of the Asian/Pacific Bar Association of Sacramento (ABAS), La Raza Lawyers Association of Sacramento (La Raza Lawyers), Wiley Manuel Bar Association (Wiley Manual), Women Lawyers of Sacramento (WLS), and Sacramento Lawyers for the Equality of Gays and Lesbians (SACLEGAL).
Alumna Tamera J. Wong '03 also received a Community Service Award at the Unity Dinner for her advocacy on behalf of Southeast Asian immigrants. While in law school, Wong worked with the Civil Rights Clinic. She currently works for Legal Services of Northern California.
