Hing Guest on KQED’s Pacific Time

Bill Ong Hing, a professor of law and author of Defining America through Immigration Policy, was a guest on KQED’s "Pacific Time," a radio show that explores the ideas, trends, and cultural patterns that flow back and forth between Asia and America. The show, “Immigration Policy—A Conversation with Bill Ong Hing,” aired June 14, 2007. The program focused on the current debate over immigration policy that centers on reuniting families. The show pointed out that historically Asian Americans and their relatives in Asia have benefited from an immigration policy that centered on reuniting families. Last year, a third of the nearly 1.3 million immigrants who were admitted to the United States came from Asian countries. Overall, more than 60 percent of immigrants came here through family sponsorships, but legislators are looking to get rid of many provisions that reunite those in America with relatives overseas.
