Hersher '84 Profiled in The Recorder

The Honorable Judy Holzer Hersher '84 was profiled in The Recorder. Hersher was appointed by Governor Gray Davis to the Sacramento Superior Court, and is currently assigned as one of four dedicated judges in the Superior Court's new Civil Trial Department. Previously, she handled criminal matters and civil writs, and served as a judge in Family Law, Civil Law and Motion, and the Criminal Domestic Violence Court. She also has 16 years of experience as a civil litigator and partner at one of Sacramento’s largest law firms.

In the profile, Hersher explained her judicial role. "Being an attorney means you are an advocate. You advocate for one side or the other," she said. "At some point in my career, I began to see the middle more than the sides. A career as a judge fits much more with that perspective."

Hersher enrolled in UC Davis School of Law as a mother of a 14-month-old infant and gave birth to her second child after her first year in law school. While in school, she joined with fellow law students with young families to help launch the School’s first daycare, the Perfect Tender Child Care Co-op.

Hersher is still actively involved at Davis School of Law. She is a board member of the Law School Alumni Association. She is also spearheading the School’s Alumni on the Bench group, which works to strengthen communication between the Law School and judges.
