Welcome New & Returning Students!

We're excited to welcome you to King Hall and the Mabie Law Library. The law library is here to support your studies and research throughout the year.

Check out our Law Student Survival Guide. It covers everything from accessing library resources from off campus and using legal research tools to tracking down the food trucks on campus.

Study Aids

The library's digital study aids collection includes outlines, audio lectures, and other tools to reinforce what you're learning in class.

This year, we've added the Aspen Learning Library, which features a number of popular series:

  • Examples & Explanations offer hypothetical questions and detailed explanations to test your knowledge of topics in law school courses.
  • Emanuel Law Outlines include topics, cases and blackletter law for law school courses, with quizzes and essay questions.
  • Emanuel Crunchtime features exam tips, capsule summaries, flow charts, and sample exam questions.
  • Glannon Guides offer straightforward explanations of complex legal topics.
  • In Other Words Audio & Video provide video and audio lectures by law professors and legal practitioners.

You'll also continue to have access to West Academic Study Aids and the Lexis Digital Library. Need help getting started or choosing a study aid? Stop by the Reference Desk or email lawlibref@ucdavis.edu.

Course Reserves

New this year, the law library has at least one print copy of all required textbooks for all first-year courses and all upper-division bar courses. We also place textbooks on reserve when they’re already in our collection or supplied by faculty members for student use. If you forget your casebook at home or want to double-check a reading assignment between classes, course reserves can be a helpful solution.

Course reserves are available for four-hour checkout while the library is staffed (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday) in the Reserves area behind the Circulation Desk. Check the Course Reserves tab in the library catalog to see what's on reserve for your classes.

Important: Because course reserves are shared among students, we don’t recommend relying on them as your only source for textbook access. Please note that the law library cannot obtain additional textbooks through interlibrary loan.
