KHIPLA mixer connects students and alums
Last Wednesday, the King Hall Intellectual Property Law Association hosted its first virtual mixer. Close to 50 students, practitioners, and alums from leading firms and companies got together to discuss intellectual property careers and working with technology clients. The students had the opportunity to interact directly with leading IP and technology attorneys through the use of breakout rooms.
A number of alums took time to meet with out students. They included Bijal Vakil '96, a partner with White & Case; Irene Yang ’06, a partner with Sidley Austin; Justin Wagner ’03, a partner with Miller Nash; Agnes Juang ’05 and Baraa Kahf ’08, partners with Knobbe Martens; Louis Wai ’13 with Turner Boyd; Helen Liu ’15 with Brubaker Law; Josh McGeorge ’17 with Dentons; Raj Pai ’17 with Squire Patton Boggs; Elizabeth Chang ’18 with White & Case; and Chance Tseng ’18 from Bowman and Brooke. The Zoom format also allowed alums from up and down the state and from out of state to participate.
We also had a great turnout of attorneys working with leading technology companies, including Jennifer Gossain '07 from Facebook, Sameena Habib ’07 from Panasonic Avionics, and Wendy Guo ’13 from Stripe. Also joining the group was Angus MacDonald ’00, who serves as Intellectual Property Counsel for the University of California. Craig Compton, our Assistant Dean of Career Services, who previously worked for a decade as a patent litigator, participated and noted there was great enthusiasm among alums and students.
Erin Friscia from Development and Alumni Relations, along with Loc Hoang '22, president of KHIPLA, made this event happen. We are hoping to have many more events connecting our students with alums throughout the country.
