ELS Symposium: "Deconstructing Waste"

Last week, the UC Davis’s Environmental Law Society hosted a timely symposium on “Deconstructing Waste.”  King Hall has a long history of excellence in environmental law. Professor Harrison “Hap” Dunning founded the program, brought speakers and conferences to King Hall, and established the law school’s first environmental law course. And the rest is history, with Professor Dunning joined by environmental law colleagues Professors Al Lin, Chris Elmendorf, the late Lesley McAllister, Rick Frank `74, and others.  Next year, Karrigan Bork joins the environmental law faculty. Scores of King Hall alumni have practiced environmental law in government, with nonprofit organizations, law firms, and in other capacities.

Jared Blumenfeld, Secretary of CalEPA

The symposium featured leading attorneys, lawmakers, and policy experts in a discussion of Deconstructing Waste. Jared Blumenfeld, Secretary of CalEPA, offered the opening keynote address. As with many King Hall events, students put the time and effort into making a successful and memorable one. Janaki Jagannath, Kelly Beskin, Samantha Blemker, Anna Mezhlumyan, and Caroline McKinney worked tirelessly in organizing the symposium.

Many King Hall alums were in attendance. One alum, Professor Richard Frank, who directs our Center for Environmental Law and Policy, welcomed the conference participants. A full day of discussion followed.
