War-crimes investigator Chris Engels ’04 appears in NBC, MSNBC news reports

Chris Engels ’04 appeared in a recent NBC news story and MSNBC video in his capacity as deputy director of the Commission for International Justice and Accountability (CIJA), which is building a war-crimes case against the Syrian regime.

The NBC reports detail the group’s efforts to prove Syrian government officials’ culpability in crimes related to the country’s 7-year-old civil war.

Under Engels’ direction, CIJA has smuggled more than 700,000 documents out of Syria that implicate the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in various crimes.

CIJA also was mentioned in an April New York Times story about a wrongful-death suit filed against the Syrian government and nine Syrian security officials by the family of Marie Colvin, a journalist killed in 2012 in Syria. Documents obtained by CIJA are fundamental to the case.
