UC Davis Law to Host Unity Bar Summit Featuring Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye '84

Unity Bar Summit

UC Davis School of Law is honored to host the 2022 Unity Bar Summit, “Access to Justice,” on Saturday, May 21 at King Hall.

Speakers at the daylong event promoting diversity and excellence in the judiciary include Gov. Gavin Newsom (by video); the Chief Justice of California, Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye ’84; California Supreme Court Associate Justice Martin J. Jenkins, and the governor’s Judicial Appointments Secretary, Luis A. Céspedes.

UC Davis Law Dean Kevin R. Johnson will offer opening remarks, along with Newsom, who will deliver a message via video, and attorney and program coordinator/moderator Jessie Morris.

Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye will deliver a speech titled “Civics and Access to Justice.”

Morris will moderate the panel discussion “Judicial Appointments: Embracing Diversity; Seeking Common Ground.” Panelists include Associate Justice Jenkins – a former Judicial Appointments Secretary -- Céspedes, and Sacramento Superior Court Judge Shama Mesiwala ’98.

Céspedes will deliver closing remarks for the event, followed by a question-and-answer session about judicial appointments.
