UC Davis Law Alums Win Assembly Races
In Nov. 5 California Assembly races, James Gallagher ’07 (R-Yuba City) was elected to a sixth term, Esmeralda Soria ’11 (D-Madera) won a second term, and Maggy Krell ’03 won a first.
Gallagher, the Assembly's Republican Leader, defeated challenger Aaron Draper in District 3.
Soria triumphed over Republican challenger Joanna Garcia Rose, who had finished ahead of Soria in the District 27 primary, by six percentage points (53% to 46%). On Dec. 3, Soria visited King Hall for a fireside-style chat with Professor Kevin R. Johnson.
Krell, a Democrat, defeated Republican challenger Nikki Ellis in Sacramento’s Assembly District 6. A California deputy attorney general and the former chief counsel for Planned Parenthood of California, Krell will fill the seat vacated by Kevin McCarty.
